The idea that the Department of Justice is “independent” of the president is ludicrous. It is part of the Executive Branch, which the President runs. See Article II of the Constitution. The President appoints the Attorney General, and DOJ reports to the president just as other federal agencies do. The President sets policies to be executed by DOJ, and his Attorney General and the AG’s subordinates carry them out.

Attorney General Eric Holder described himself as President Obama’s “wing man”, Peepers and Mr. Magoo, not so much.

The DOJ's duty is to the law not the President. It is not the President's law office.

 

If I were a member of Congress, I'd gladly sign my name to the document. It doesn't have to be enumerated, the DOJ was created through both either executive order or by congressional legislation. Oversight therefore is a matter of federal law, and Rosenstein has just publicly stated that he's willing to violate federal law.

Especially given that the article in question does not imperil the investigation at any rate. It should've been given to all relevant parties at the start. Rosenstein just made his own bed with his foolish comments, and is on a one way ticket to unemployment like an idiot.

And the executive branch enforces the law. It most definitely is their job to enforce the law via the executive's wishes(provided they be legal wishes.) Interestingly, Trump has now stated he will use his presidential powers. It would be great if he declared a declassification of ALL documents pertaining to the Russian Investigation. Since the DOJ cannot be trusted to actually cooperate, force them to cooperate. And if they don't, charge them with treason and sedition.

 

Obviously not, as Rosenstein and the rest of the Obama Swamp leftovers in the KGB-FBi/DOJ continue too STONEWALL the elected representatives of the People, who are attempting to work for the People, via their OVERSIGHT DUTIES.
