I also enjoyed it when he tried to use a Conservative method of health care to help people stop going bankrupt simply because they had the temerity to get sick and be unable to afford treatment. I also loved it when he pushed for the CFPB to help people against the companies trying to screw them. I also loved it when he pushed to force financial advisors to have a fiduciary interest in giving the advice that will best suit the customer, rather then whatever gets them the most fees. Increased Pell Grants, DoddFrank, Reduced participation in Iraq and Afghanistan, Oversaw the death of Osama Bin Laden, Turned around the Auto Industry, repealed Don'tAskDon'tTell, Improved Fuel Efficiency Standards, Improved Clean Air and Water Standards, put Tobacco Oversight to the FDA, Cracked down on for-profit colleges, etc...etc..

To be fair, I also hated his expansion of the Drone program, extra-judicial killing of an American Citizen (terrorist or not), Took out Ghaddafi and supported the Arab Spring which started the war in Syria and Govt changes in Egypt and elsewhere, didn't close Guantanamo outright, didnt' fight the republicans hard enough when it became obvious that nothing he did would ever get support from the Right beyond McCain and Snowe, etc...etc..

You can search away. I'm Left of Center by international political measurement (which means i'm a crazy lefty to the US). I agree that the US govt has every right to close its boarders to whomever it decides to (though I believe you can still treat them humanely as you send them back out the door). I think that gun control as it's viewed by the US to very ineffective and an issue that the Left should drop because most have no clue about guns, different makes/models etc, I think that Public Unions have an inherent conflict of interest because of their voting power, but I also think that Govt employees should have a level of power so that their job security doesn't become unstable every 4 years.

We have tariffs on our Dairy products (the major sticking point in NAFTA after the Problem Settlement process) because the US massively subsidizes it's agricultural (and thus Dairy) sector to the point where were would get flooded by US Dairy products and our producers would be out of business. Remove the subsidies that uneven the playing field and then we can talk about 'fair'.
