    ROFL that's NOT an interestate highway it is big park and a HUGE border crossing one of the busiest. And for all you know there is a sign there but the fact is it is VERY apparent that is a border and a huge border crossing.

    They should've let her make a phone call and wait in the room with them until her mother arrived, which would probably be a few minutes, seeing that the border was within jogging distance. If they put her through the metal detector, then she's not armed, but the border patrol agents are, and she's only one and they're several, then she's not a threat anyway. And they probably have security cameras in their buildings.

    And the moment the passport arrives, why keep her locked up? If the only reason for the lockup is that Canada wouldn't expect her back, that's not a security issue. Not once she's shown her passport, anyway.

    From this part of the park, you can see the border crossing.
    But was she on this side of the park? It's a rather large park and full of trees. The article didn't state which part of the park it was.
