Early on I liked Condi Rice for the job. I still do. But she probably wouldn't accept it.

Being a lawyer/judge is not required, and I think a little professional diversity would be a great thing.

On a personal level my mom's around the same age and recently fell suffering similar injuries which very nearly killed her and I wish Ruth the best. On a political level I am salivating at another Trump appointment to the Supremes and relishing the fact that Republicans gained seats in the Senate. This is a huge opportunity!

All true, and speaking for myself I do wish her well. She and Scalia were best of friends. What a pair. Now anyone here does have to admit when you see her in her robes it is a bit comical so please lefties allow us to poke fun in her/your direction. Just pretend we are malcontent lefties for a day.

one thing's for sure, she won't be able to 'nod off' in her normal slumped forward position with those broken ribs, so sitting up at the bench won't be happening for a while... rest assured, if she does manage to go to 'work', it would only happen with lots of dilaudid and then her rulings would be under extreme scrutiny, so imo she won't be back for a while...

 

I haven't looked at her comments or opinions; I have no idea where her cognizance of issues and her judgment stands. I've known people at her age who were pretty sharp- after all Warren Buffet is 84 and sharp as ever. However, when Buffet sits down at the desk in front of 40,000 shareholders at the annual meeting and answers direct questions for 6 hours, you don't see him nodding off. I can't remember a video or picture of Ginsberg recently where she wasn't. I would prefer that our justices were all running on all cylinders, so I think there is a reasonable question of condition here. It is somewhat comical, but seriously inappropriate for a SC justice to be unable to stay focused on the task at hand.

 

Best of friends for sure! They understood the difference between judicial opinions and how to be human beings and even though they were on opposite sides almost always on those opinions, they found a way to be true friends to each other. In my opinion, Antonin Scalia was one of the greatest judicial minds of our time and many believe the same of Ruth Bader Ginsburg. I respect those who have that opinion!
