TV Networks’ Coverage of Trump Was 90% Negative in 2018, Study Shows

Coverage of Donald Trump’s presidency on the three major TV networks—ABC, CBS, and NBC—was overwhelmingly negative in 2018, just as it was a year earlier, according to a study conducted by the Media Research Center.

Excluding neutral statements on the Trump administration, the tone was 90 percent negative versus 10 percent positive for the year, the Media Research Center (MRC) report published Jan. 15 found.

Even so, Trump’s approval ratings actually ticked upward during the year to a 42.7 percent approval rating on Dec. 31, from a 40 percent rating on Jan. 1, according to an analysis by RealClearPolitics.

Just the latest bit of evidence that our media is objective and unbiased.

Anyone who has been paying attention has noted the decline of the MSM.

And yet even with this definitive bias, Trumps approval numbers are rising.

All you have to do is watch the MSM. All they do is attack Trump, Republicans, and the GOP and anything associated with that. I think I was watching Wolf and all they did was Trump did this and its negative effects of it. Not once during that show did I see/hear a positive or natural statement.

I am not a consumer of these media products, but at my gym, CNN is always on. It is always a negative story about Trump. I think he is their salesman of the year!!!

The Media Research Center was one of a small galaxy of right wing pressure and front group originally financed by right wing billionare Richard Mellon Scaife. Their original sole purpose was as part of the get Clinton effort, which Scaife financed.

Their ongoing purpose is to validate the right wing trash media by manufacturing an endless stream of stories designed to sell the idea that the only "news" right wingers should trust are the ones that parrot the stuff Media Research Center manufactures.

It has about as much credibility as the right wing trash blogs that Trumpsters here are most devoted to.

How on earth were they able to scrape up 10% of "positive" coverage from An Egregious, Mysogynist, Racist, IMBECILE (Who Hates America) and was worthy of less than 1% "positive" coverage.

The major networks must really like him.

In my travels I try to listen into CNN and MSNBC and it is ALL negative and a bunch of canards to the point after 5 minutes of hearing the latest "here's how we attack Trump today" talking point I can't stand it.

 

The "study" is like most other Media Research Center products.

MRC decided what the headline would be before the "study" (which is almost certainly non existant) even started.

They grind this stuff out and feed it to the right wing trash blogs to repeat for the entertainment of an audience that doesn't read, doesn't know much about history, politics or government.

The trash blogs post it, because it validates them, and validates the audience's prejudices.

All the usual suspects in the right trash blogosphere are dutifully parroting it!

Which is not surprising. MRC is also CNS, the Crackpot Noise Service!

As for disproving this "study".

We'd actually need to see an actual study first.

I haven't found it yet. It may actually exist, but the odds are even at best.

I wonder after two years of Obama, when we had double digit unemployment and skyrocketing debt and record high deficits...what was the coverage? Especially now when we have the opposite

Probably Russian disinformation. I get the strong impression that they're still working overtime to subvert our democracy by waging war against our legitimate news media, just as they have been working to demonise the Democrats as corrupt and what-not.

 

Case in point - Faux News has been mum about the shutdown, by and large, looking at their site. They have nothing nice to report about MAGA on that front, so they just stay quiet and focus on anything and everything else.
