Look at the US/ Mexico border on at photos (GOOGLE Earth) and you will see the places that need a barrier. Mostly along the cities, some in the desert where Rommel could run his entire corps of tanks side by side. I live on the border... we don't have much illegal alien traffic through here, we've had a huge and imposing border since before there were people in the Americas.

Your not speaking for the majority of the ranchers living near the border. That land is desert and they have all kinds of problems with illegals crossing their property. One rancher here in Arizona was killed by illegals. Many have been robbed and others pestered for food and water.. Most of the land right at the border isn't used. Some that complain are only doing it to try and get a bigger settlement for the land.

Have you got any actual evidence about the opinion of the majority of the ranchers who own property that might be confiscated or are you just blowing smoke.

Behind this rancher is the border fence.

In Arizona, hundreds of miles of steel fencing were built, with the Secure Fence Act forcing traffic to more remote areas of the border. Some ranchers welcome the idea of building a wall, but they say it won’t do any good without boots on the ground. Here are perspectives from two ranchers on the Arizona border.

    Roads First, Walls Later
Operation Hold the Line in Texas was a successful effort by Border Patrol to bring more enforcement and technology to the region starting in 1993. The following year Operation Gatekeeper in California began and illegal entries through San Diego were reduced by more than 75%. This was when ranchers like Dan Bell of Nogales, Ariz., started seeing an uptick in movement across the border.

there should already be an easement in place as there is already a barrier in place. so any land not already public land immediately adjacent to the existing structure would be minimal. iow, this whole argument is a big fat nothing berder.

A fence and wall does the job, but not by it's self. They need more border patrol patrolling along the fence. The problem being, there are no roads along most of the border and it takes for ever just to go a moderate distance, so it's seldom patrolled. Even if you called border patrol, it could take hours to get there. Roads would also help property owners move about. Where the new fence stops is where the heaver traffic is, which is one good point for a barrier. Instead of trying to cross the barrier, many, especially with families will walk down to the end of the barrier and cross there. That would be a good place for extra BP

no worries we have already raised billions for a privacy hedge between our great nations. Planting will begin around July when the ground isn't frozen anymore.

A thorny solution to a simple problem.

If you had read enough of my posts, you'd know I never blow smoke. I can usually always back up what I say. Many people don't live near the border that is all but open, so they have no idea of what people living near the border go through. I posted another on Arizona ranchers living near the border. From the way they talk, I'm sure they would welcome a road to run down along the border.

    1) Obama was already President when he lied to get Obama Care passed that has cost us triple digit billions.

    2) Unlike crimes committed by document immigrants, every crime that an illegal alien commits is a preventable one.

I am unaware of your authority for speaking for the majority of the ranchers living near the border.

Some landowners with property along the U.S.-Mexico border are preparing legal challenges with the expectation that the Trump administration will use eminent domain to seize land for construction of the president's planned border wall.

The Associated Press reports that the Trump administration would face legal challenges from multiple landowners in Texas, challenges that would not be bypassed if the president follows through on his threats to declare a national emergency over illegal border crossings in order to build a wall.

    https://thehill.com/blogs/blog-brie...owners-preparing-to-fight-eminent-domain-over

Indications are that many are prepared to defend their private property from seizure by Trump's feds.

... “You could give me a trillion dollars and I wouldn’t take it,” said Cavazos, whose land sits along the Rio Grande, the river separating the U.S. and Mexico in Texas. “It’s not about money.”...

Many have hired lawyers who are preparing to fight the government if, as expected, it moves to seize their land through eminent domain.

All nine congressional members who represent the landowners in districts along the 2,000-mile southern border oppose Trump's wall scheme - as do most Americans.

Private property owners targeted by Trump's feds for confiscation of their land are prepared to speak truth to power and fight to protect it.

I can't speak for Texas, but I know and have posted several articles from Arizona ranchers that look forwards to a wall/fence on their property to keep illegals out. Many also like the road that would be built along side it for Border Patrol, as many of the roads on their ranch are almost non existent and takes a long time to travel anywhere. You might want to go back and read them.

Even if we pretend that the last guy who was twice elected with over 51% of the vote and completed his two terms with 60% approval was a foreign-born Muslim Communist, that does not confront the present plight of trumpery.

Your need to contrive diversions to bygone days from pressing realities does not address Trump's being proud to shut down the government because a Democratically-controlled House persists in maintaining the position of two years of Republicans in control of both houses of Congress in refusing to give him $5.7 billion for his wall that he repeatedly had promised Mexico would pay for and that a majority of Americans do not want.

This is a loser for him as well as for the nation.

To show how two faced Liberals are. Your Party was willing back in 2013 to give 43 billion dollars to build 700 miles of fence border and you didn't say ****. Now your complaining of five and a half billion? Where was your concern about taking people's land then? This is what pisses me off with Liberals. You have to sets of rules of conduct, one you expect Republicans to follow and not yourself.
