One just has to look at this forum. Videos are posted all the time to smear the opposition. Many of these videos are fake news, or at least heavily edited to generate feelings in the viewership, mostly hatred for the other side.

And that is just the beginning of the problem. Very soon, technology will be able to generate videos that put false words into someone's mouth, looking 100% real. The propaganda wars are just starting to ramp up to the next stage.

What does all this lead to? Disgust and hatred for each other, which is then amplified 100 times by social media, including this forum.

Those who scream bloody murder about these HS students being falsely accused are actually the same who happily spread fake news when it serves their own purpose and makes their side look good and the other side look bad, no matter if true or not.
