Let's pretend that we're in charge, instead of Donald Trump and Nancy Pelosi. How we would negotiate to end the shutdown? And in the nature of the Great Compromise, I promise not to flame/insult anybody no matter how much *Left* drives me up a wall(at times.)

    Here are my compromises:
I'm willing to abandon a Wall, but in exchange I want double the funding(10 Billion) on a vast variety of means. Not only reinforcing existing infrastructure, but as pointed out by the Left: Increased man power, and ammunition/logistics for those officers. Including drones and other means of surveillance.

Additionally, I'm willing to grant Green Cards but I'm not willing to grant proper citizenship to those who illegally crossed the border. I don't care if they're young, I don't care if they crossed by themselves or if their parents forced them. They by definition *illegally* broached the border.

Granting them Green Cards is the least and therefore most, the US Government should be obligated to do. Maybe, we can slowly naturalize them over time(after all, to be a Naturalized citizen you'd just have to take a test). But no automatic citizenships. We gave this up in 1985, nothing has been given to us(right/alternative, etc) to be worthy of a second such giving.

Let Trump have 10bn for a wall. In exchange:

    -End the drug war.
    -Withdraw from the Middle East
-Start a bipartisan committee to end collusion between business and government

That's like... 3 of the top 5 golden geese of the left. And I guarantee they still wouldn't take the offer.

After all, how can you negotiate with someone you've been calling literal Hitler for years?

    Okay, I'll bite.

Give me 20 billion for the wall, or in a month social welfare services are going to be cut. The vast majority of welfare queens are in lefty states, and they're not going to be happy to find out that Joe Taxpayer isn't paying for her food, and she''s gonna have to get up off her fat ass and try to find a man who might be willing to support her and her worthless kids. They'll start rioting, and one thing I'm fairly certain of is that they won't riot in the sticks. They'll start rioting right outside of Nancy Pelosi's mansion.

We can wait this one out all year long if you want.

I think what is really at stake here is the question of WHO is president- Pelosi or Trump. That is a very critical issue, and can't be compromised.
I think Trump's strategy is to give Pelosi all the rope she needs to hang herself. It's working.

There are alternatives to a wall- but doing nothing is not one of them.

We don't need a wall if there isn't an economic incentive to coming. That economic incentive is the huge amount of social welfare services that lefties love so much. The food stamps stop at the end of february.

Build the wall in exchange for amnesty. Everyone here now gets a visa and becomes a citizen after a probationary period of 3 years without violating the law. Everyone who violates the law or doesnt have a visa thereafter is deported.

Crossing the border illegally prior to now is blanket forgiven. Crossing the border illegally from here on after permanently bars one from applying to enter legally.

Absolutely not! Build the wall, or your cities start making the LA riot look like a parking violation.

For me, I just want the shutdown done, so 10bn for increased security measures that are not the wall and double (at least) the immigration court manpower and ancillary needs so we can process these asylum cases fast. Too many BS claims that result in someone not staying here because we can't be bothered to fund the system enough so we can separate the sheep from the goats.

If we make it so someone's case is settled in 30 days or less they can be monitored until their case is heard, then sent home or welcomed for asylum.

    Nope. The wall or starve.

If Trump caved in on the wall, he's finished. He knows it, and you know it as well.

Red staters will starve as well. Trump's welfare base won't like it...not one bit.

This is true. They don't really count, though. They'd be in whatever camp wants to continue being a parasite off of the taxpayer, no matter what.

    We call them rinos.

You - we - don't have 10 billion to blow on border security, especially not all up-front. Take your 1.7 billion, or whatever the counter proposal was, and quit being a self-serving fool worried more about 2020 than you are the good of the nation.

Also, let's leave out talk of "the Left" and otherwise for this discussion, mkay? It's counter-productive to throw such labels and generalizations about.

That is his problem, of course, not ours. But yes, I call this his political Alamo, because he has nothing else.

Then get ready for the welfare queen Armageddon.

That's not going to happen in the sticks, where Trump supporters are. It's going to happen in lefty cities, and you boyahs are going to find out just how vulnerable you are to your parasite class.

I am worried about the good of the nation. Then, since you contend with up front, then how about 1.7 billion per 5 years. That should be a constant stream of revenue for border security, and is a cheap daily commitment(0.5% of GDP)

While we are at it, I think we should limit our spending on Israel and Saudi Arabia. With this money, we will have plenty for the added security.

I'm in semi-rural red country, but amazingly it still has welfare services and food banks. I imagine the latter will start running short the former does all dry up.

D'you reckon the preppers will get their moment to shine soon? Is the proverbial poopy about to hit the fan?

Agreed. I hate our middle eastern allies(but of course not the indignant people or US citizens with said ancestry). Sad that it needs to be said. But I don't see them as allies. I see us as propping up other religious theocracies, vs other religious theocracies.

The government will remain shutdown, dreamers will start getting deported along with any other illegal alien, the wall will be started and built by the military and the courts can shove it. Done and done.

Funny story, those rural areas often heavily rely on government money. All sorts of different programs that people may not realize are backed or from the government, like crop subsidies and the like. Generally red states are net takers of federal money, rather than givers.

Now for net numbers, sure the cities have more of people who rely on the government, but most of the poorest places in the country are rural areas.

Shutdown, Schmutdown that is small potaotes. Looking at the big picture I say bringing in caravans of attractive single women from South America, Central America and Mexico is the key. All the media shows are these short, squatty women dragging kids behind them. If american women saw thousands of hot single babes coming across the border that wall would go up pronto!
    MedellinGroup01-566x440.jpg

I am thinking about organizing it myself. They could all claim amnesty. All they want is a better life and I would like to give it to them.

Oh, that's just great! Millions of new green card holders that Americans will have to compete with. Even Bernie Sanders understands that letting them in will depress the wages of Americans, and white men especially. They are 'minorities' and they have the good fortune to be beneficiaries of Affirmative Action, which isn't working out to well for white men.
