Sheila Jackson Lee Resigns from Key Posts After Being Sued for Retaliation Against Staffer

What a horrible crime being covered up. Will this receive condemnation from all Democrats in leadership? Doesn't this hit the heart of the @metoo movement? Now we have women retaliating against alleged rape victims? Not that the source of the coverup is any surprise.


The staffer, identified as Jane Doe, alleges she was raped by a Congressional Black Caucus Foundation intern coordinator, Damien Jones, in 2015. The unnamed plaintiff said she has evidence, including text message, telephone conservations, and DNA to prove the encounter occurred. According to the accuser, she was fired from her position in March 2018 after notifying the Texas Democrat’s chief of staff, Glenn Rushing, that she intended to take legal action against the foundation. The lawsuit states she was let go several weeks later, citing “budgetary issues.”

The Congressional Black Caucus Foundation, a nonprofit aligned with the Congressional Black Caucus, offers scholarships and other programs aimed at cultivating political leadership among African-Americans.

Jones later worked for the failed Senate campaign of former Rep. Robert Francis “Beto” O’Rourke (D-TX). A spokesperson for O’Rourke’s campaign told BuzzFeed that they were previously unaware of the allegations against Jones and “no longer [have] a relationship” with him.

Texas Rep. Sheila Jackson Lee is reportedly resigning as chairwoman of the Congressional Black Caucus Foundation and as chair of a congressional subcommittee amid allegations she retaliated against a former staffer who claimed she was raped by a foundation supervisor.

Both BuzzFeed and The New York Times report Jackson Lee will leave as chair of the Congressional Black Caucus Foundation, a non-profit group closely aligned with the Congressional Black Caucus.

She will also leave her position temporarily as chair of a House Judiciary subcommittee.

The Democrat came under pressure last week to resign her posts after she was accused in a Jan. 11 lawsuit of retaliating against a former staffer who claimed she was sexually assaulted by Damien Jones, a former intern supervisor at the Congressional Black Caucus Foundation.
