Still PROJECTING your own shortcomings onto others?

You were provided with the relevant facts and your reaction was kneejerk denialism indicative of Cognitive Dissonance. Scientific studies have determined that any attempt to actually remediate the fallacious beliefs of those in that state of mind has the opposite effect of just reinforcing their fallacies rather than correcting them ergo there is nothing to be gained by engaging in the attempt.

Given those facts you have effectively DISQUALIFIED yourself from any further meaningful interaction on this topic as far as I am concerned.

    Have a nice day!

The internet is a repository of both fact and fiction. The ability to determine the difference requires critical thinking skills. Yes, the maxim of "don't believe everything you read" applies and the onus rests on the individual to separate the gems of fact from the overburden of fictional dross.

While governments do engage in propaganda dissemination our government of We the People is constrained from censuring individuals from expressing their ideas. Therefore the same critical thinking skills apply when evaluating information from government sources.

That said there is a dearth of critical skills in general amongst We the People.

You can only cut something off if there is a Single Point of Failure. There are already alternatives to SWIFT which means that it was an ineffective gesture to use that as a means of sanctioning Russia. If anything it was self defeating since now the burden of tracking down money laundering is far greater than it needed to be.

The concept of the internet is to ELIMINATE the problem that arises with Single Points of Failure. The desire to create an "alternative internet protocol" means convincing corporations to bear the cost without any benefit. The exact same thing can be achieved with encryption without any need to involve any outside interests.

Neither Putin nor his servile henchman, our BLOTUS, are trustworthy.

Thats like saying Asians are going to invent teleporters to use instead of cars because the Europeans invented the car. The internet today is NOTHING like it was back in the 80s, 90s and its a completely different protocol than even the early 2000s. The US used to be the "headquarters" of the internet but that changed a few years ago when it was internationalized. The only thing the US maintains control over is anything in the .com domain. Other than that its free lunch for anyone.

    Wrong!

The Internet Protocol (IP) was first conceived in the 1970's and then developed for DARPA.

IP version 1 and 2 (IPv1 and IPv2) were experimental and the internet was launched with IPv4 as the standard. That now runs concurrently with IPv6 which allows for a greater number of IP addresses which overcomes a limitation in IPv4.

What you are talking about is the User Interface (UI) that has developed since the advent of the Internet. During the 1980's and early 90's it was largely a TEXT based interface requiring knowledge of how to communicate with others. Once Microsoft developed Version 3 of their Windows application as the front end that provided the operating system for what are known as Browser Applications. Browsers use HyperText Markup Language (HTML) as the means of rendering the User Interface in a graphical friendly manner.

The Internet Protocols used by Browsers are still IPv4 and IPv6 to communicate across the internet.

    Classic US short-term, knee-jerk myopia

Because the US will end up with an internet it alone uses whereas other nations in the world will find an alternative that they will migrate to that's why.

The more the US throws its weight around the more they're shooting themselves in the foot.

For example, Europe (and also Russia) have established alternatives to the SWIFT clearing system that the US is able to sanction - thus condemning SWIFT's future demise as the premier world clearing system (HERE & HERE).

The obvious consequence is that SWIFT is destined in the longer term to be downgraded to just one of several clearing systems not controlled by the US, thanks to their arrogance.

    :roflol:

Once again a glaring lack of subject matter knowledge in evidence.

Some of the alternatives to SWIFT are Fedwire, Ripple, and CHIPS.

However only the gullible believe that there will be a "future demise" for SWIFT.

Teleporters? Blimey pal, you're stretching it a bit into the realm of Star Trek aren't you.

And yes I'm quite aware of how the internet has developed over the years -- I was an early user back in the dark days when discussion forum like this were email lists. This was well before geo-blocking and other negative developments (massive surveillance, denial of service attacks, state hacking etc). Back then access was via a very slow dial up phone connection and webpages that were heavy in images took minutes to load and people avoided them for that reason. Wifi hadn't been invented back then. Nor had social media sites.

The down side for today's internet is the clear drive to harness and shape it for the benefit of the Western ruling elite. Consequently, my guess is that it's days are numbered in the sense that an alternative or alternatives will eventually develop.

In any event, I suspect the reason Russia has decided to disconnect from it is to see if they are able to sustain themselves outside of it. I'm sure other nations will start following suit -- if they haven't already done so.

Good for you. Based on your input in this thread you'll be giving forum members something to chuckle about.
    Sigh.

A little research is a dangerous thing. You've been prowling around Google searching for clearing system to make yourself look smart, but you don't have the slightest practical knowledge of what you're talking about. And it shows.

So, let me spell it out for you.

Fedwire and CHIPS are American domiciled and controlled systems mostly used for US domestic use and dollar clearing - they were back in the day I regularly used them and I see they still are.

Whereas what I've been discussing above are necessary "alternatives" - repeat "alternatives" to American controlled /dominated clearing systems that the US can sanction.

Ripple is also a US company (Ripple Labs Inc) that developed a payment protocol. It is NOT a clearing system but a computer programme. Clearly you do not even understand the difference.

I know thinking hurts your head, but please try to keep pace, son.

Or better still go back to the school yard and play chase and touch games.

    Congratulations!

You have finally managed to make a post WITHOUT resorting to your puerile conspiracy theories. Keep it up and you might be able to engage in meaningful civil discourse in the future.

Of course there are "controlling" government authorities over financial systems. They wouldn't work otherwise. That is so patently obvious but you appear to be FIXATED only on "American control". Here is a NEWSFLASH for you. The vast majority of nations exercise some degree of financial "control" over their own currency otherwise it would be worthless.

The current problems that are plaguing the United States are all SELF INFLICTED and therefore can be remediated by the US government.

Your flailing desperation is only exceeded by your inability to refrain from puerile ad hom violations of PF rules.

    Sounds perfect.

Apparently the U.S. government doesn't share your opinion.
I've never heard of it but I appreciate your usual anti-american rant.

yeah, but we creatures are becoming too comfortable, arent we...

i've long spoken that i'd like to see the electricity shut off for about a year or two, maybe a decade... the young have no clue about real life, as they've been handed everything from those of us whom remember the 'bad' times...

There are no more or very few IPv4 addresses left. That is why they switched to IPv6. Essentially IPv4 is now legacy and eventually it will fall by the way side entirely as the addresses become defunct which happens extremely rapidly.

The point was that the US no longer has control over domains like it used to except for .com. Everything else is based in Europe now. Even if some country wants to have their own special internet it still has to use the same coding to interact with the outside world which completely negates the point about security. Thats like saying that Russia got rid of all their Windows computers and installed a cheap knock off from China called Mindows. All this is about is control and limiting access and spying. That's it.

The Internet Protocol is the core standard on which the internet functions and has NOTHING WHATSOEVER to do with assigning DOMAINS. Domains are issued with IPv4 or IPv6 addresses by ICANN which has representatives from over 100 nations participating in the process of domain registration.

Furthermore the Internet Protocol even less to do with the TYPES of computing devices connected to the internet since it doesn't care what operating system is sending packets as long as they ALL conform to the STANDARD Internet PROTOCOL.

What difference does it make as to whether or not the US has control over Domains? Did you know that Whitehouse.com was originally a porn site? That happened while the US still had "control" over domain names. This is like throwing a hissyfit over the spelling of the word "color" versus "colour". No one gives a crap!

Furthermore your drivel about "control and limiting access and spying" is nonsensical in the context of the Internet Protocols and Domains. It is impossible to "control and limit access" to the internet given that there are millions of free WiFi portals all around the world.

The use of the internet for spying was a given from the outset and it is ludicrous to believe that anyone can prevent it given the ease with which hackers roam freely. If you don't want anyone to "access" what you have then the most obvious solution is to NOT put it on the internet.

this is a good test, the USA should test disconnecting our country from the rest of the world one day a month to test, make sure people are not too dependent on other countries

I will stay with IPv4 as long as possible, NAT works great for many uses

India will eventually control all information services, those that control the information have the power - this is a national security risk

As you have already shown you literally know nothing about this except what you google.

You just regurgitated my entire point about it being useless for Russia to shutdown the internet for security reasons. Just stop already you already embarrassed yourself with the other guy and you are doing it yet again.

Its too decentralized now. China is spending billions trying to crack down and while they are having some success Chinese can still access the outside world with only a very little know how. VPNs are only getting better and better.
