You are asking if I object to helping? Not at all. You can help them as much as you want, I won't stop you. So do you? Are you sending in extra? Are you taking them into your home? If not, why don't you want to help the poor and old and sick?

IMO, a person that talks the talk, needs to walk the walk. Compassion without action is nothing. 12,000+ posts in a little over 2 years? That time could have been spent helping the unfortunate. The poor and sickly would appreciate that. They receive nothing from time spent on this forum.

People who work full-time still need federal assistance. Food is expensive and many families can't afford it.

How does the mom work full-time when she has two toddler? She can't afford to pay someone to babysit them eight hours a day.

Agreed but people should be working or actively looking for employment to receive government benefits. Entry level jobs are the best job training available. Those jobs increase the human capital of each individual through experience in a work place and skill development.

Government benefits cover that. The problem with the welfare system is that it incentivizes people to stay home because in many cases people actually lose income by going to work. That's ridiculous.

But you seem to think that all welfare users are being lazy, or that being employed means you can afford the basic necessities. Neither is true.

What's ridiculous is how silent Republicans are on corporate welfare.

Food for taste is expensive, food for sustainance is cheap AF.

I don't care at all if you don't like the taste of your food.

That's not true. How does someone who earns minimum wage afford groceries? $40/week on groceries is $160/month.

If someone who earns $7.50/hr works 40 hours, that's $300/wk. After taxes, it's about $240/week.

If they spend only $40/wk on groceries, that leaves $200/wk ($800/month) on rent, utilities, and other expenses like gas and clothes. And forget about affording healthcare.

All of the things you listed are secondary to food. My claim has always been that they would have bought food anyway and the stamps simply stand in for luxuries like nice clothes, gas, electricity, etc.

Trump has made it so you have to be looking for work as an able bodied middle aged male to be eligible for food stamps. That is perfectly reasonable. Indeed, it doesn't go nearly far enough.

I saw a story in my local newspaper about "food deserts" in inner city neighborhoods. The grocery stores in the ghetto neighborhoods are all closing one by one, and the "community organizers" are all crying about the people in the communities have no access to food.

The reporters looked into it, and guess why the grocery stores are closing? Yeah, that would be because those same community organizers had previously cried about no access to food, and so an enormous food pantry was built, and that food pantry teamed up with a nearby Fed Ex hub to efficiently deliver free food to inner city residents.

Turns out, it's hard for grocery stores to sell food for money, when charities are giving tons of it away for free.

    Who woulda thunk it?

What is this corporate welfare and what does that have to do with the social safety net ?? You do realize that corporations don’t pay taxes, they collect them from their customers.

Trump is actually going back to the Clinton welfare reforms gutted by Obama and many D governors. The OP is identical to what was said about those very successful reforms in 1996.

    Learn to read.

I said I am below the poverty line.

    I AM!

I DO look around and count my blessing. I consider myself one of the luckiest people I know. I consider myself one of the most content people I know.

What does that have to do with the fact that I am living below the poverty level?

Do you make this crap up yourself...or do you have someone even dumber than you help?

I do help the poor...by advocating for them. And I probably volunteer more of my time to my community than most people do to theirs.

So stop with the bull ****.

Okay, I'll agree. But I love telling Internet American conservatives that I think they are scum. I like the way they react...the way they get triggered.

    So???

    As I said...I do.

Yeah...as I said. You have never had money taken from you by the government at gunpoint.

Yeah, that is what you guys want to think.

"I've got mine, screw you" is much closer to the truth.

Where do you see more "You're screwed" people? In conservative cities, or liberal cities?

You’ve read and understand Haskin’s book on the success of the Clinton welfare reforms which required work for benefits ???

Read my posts upthread to learn about those reforms.

The streets aren't paved with bum loaves and hypodermic needles, so you'd hate it.
