Dirty Donald'sTariffs are nothing more than increased regressive taxes on the poor and middle class whose smaller incomes will require a far greater percentage being expended to satisfy them.It will be particularly true on the life's necessities like toilet paper and other household necessities which will be increased in price to satisfy the tariffs.

What if those tariffs are collected and given to new startup manufacturers and the poor and middle class now have better jobs?

    You think it's bad here...

You should see how Chinas citizens are suffering. Auto exports are down 20% from last year, and their economy is on the verge of collapse.

The only reason it hasnt is because government subsidies and spending are keeping it afloat.

They cant afford a trade war with us, and they know it. They're holding onto hope that Trump is voted out in 2020 and that hes replaced by some spineless Democrat who will go back to the old ways of bending over.

You'd think someone in the White House would have enough balls to explain some of the simpler things to trump.

Yet another thread where the violent leftists want the US to subsidize communist China's military expansion. Why am I not surprised?

I think tariffs are usually imposed to protect domestic industries aren't they? I know here in Australia prior to 1983 we protected a lot of our domestic industries by using all sorts of protectionism including tariffs. The legacy for us was a moribund economy that allowed domestic industries to put up prices that were just below those of imported goods, the imports having their prices artificially inflated because of tariffs. However the intent wasn't to start a trade war but as protection for the locals. That allowed substandard (in world terms) industries that could only exist due to protection and we were paying top prices for crap. When there was a wholesale change and more opening up to international competition in 1983 we started to see a huge improvement.

But I don't recall any money going to the government due to tariffs, they were just there to price imports so high that it dampened consumer demand. I have no idea if the Trump claim to be making money for the government from tariffs is in fact true or whether he's confused or just lying.

With his latest attacks on Chinese Tech and telecom companies Huawei and ZTE he certainly can't be endearing himself to the Chinese government or the average citizen.

Retail financial analyst on CNBC today predicting that Dirty Donalds tariffs will result in over 12,000 retail stores closing during 2019, if he adds his third tranche of tariffs.

The worst tax on the poor and lower middle class I can think of is exporting their job to China.

Look ... All the U.S. wants is fair trade. We don't want unfair trade with China; we want fair trade. Ultimately, fair trade with China is good for the American worker.

No, it was unions, high taxes and burdensome regulation that "exported the jobs to China and every other country with low wages and no worker."

Compare exports in the UK and in Germany. The former has significantly weakened unions, refocused tax on sales (engineering regressive outcomes) and deregulated left, right and centre. The latter hasn't. Which one has the most vibrant manufacturing sector?
