    That isn’t what I said, I said:

The top 10% would be taxed at 45% on amounts above that earning quintile
The top percent would be taxed at 50% on amounts above the top earning quintile

I’ve also seen proposals with the super wealthy paying a much much higher percentage. Which I also think is “fair”. What isn’t fair is an heir to a billion dollar fortune telling others born into poverty they just need to try harder. What isn’t fair is people buying degrees at prestigious universities while most have trouble affording community college.

So long as there are tax loopholes tax rates actually mean very little. Neither party is serious about changing the tax codes because they know it would effect them as well.

How about just paying teachers what they deserve? Many good teachers leave the profession to seek better paying jobs.

Its always a shakedown to get teachers more pay, less students, more administrators, etc.

    But test scores suck.

If these leftist teachers are worth more, is that why they choose to indoctrinate students?

    Why?

So you want to use the tax system to get back at people you don't like.

The "rich" already pay more than their share, which isn't actually "fair".

Marxist dogma is very much centered around class struggle, however.

If you got a job, you wouldnt need to depend on the government taking other peoples money.

Libetarianism is a philosophy of grinding the face of the poor.

    Its just an opinion.
I’m open to new suggestions that don’t involve extending permanent tax cuts to the very wealthy while making everyone else’s tax cuts temporary.

Not at all. I just believe that income inequality is one of the most dangerous issues our country faces. When we have individuals that have a higher net worth than tens of millions of others combined — sometimes more than other nations — something is very wrong. These people do not just sit idly by, they purchase legislators that in turn pass laws to help them obtain even more money.

I would likely personally see my taxes go up so it isn’t hate — it’s just the right thing to do.
And before you go into “why don’t I just donate what I think is fair to the government”, the answer is it would put me at an uncompetitive disadvantage against business that are my competition, ones that already have the advantage of hiring a cheaper (illegal) workforce which I refuse to hire — which is why I am a huge proponent of national e-verify.

I would also be fine with taxes being diverted to non-profit charities that serve all and would likely be more effective since many are distrustful of our corrupt government but that is for a different discussion.

He lied about taxing the middle class in 2008, why should we believe him on middle class taxes now?

The rich pay the vast, vast majority of tax. They want to make this less fair, not more.

What's the premise of the opinion? And I don't recall the tax law saying that if you are wealthy the income tax rate reduction is permanent but if you aren't then it is temporary. And the only reason the tax rate cuts had a sunset provision in 10 years was because no Democrats would support them. Here's a suggesting let's make them permanent.

Well considering what you said first and what you just said I think completely at all. Who cares what someone else has or earns? Since when is it the duty and role of our government to limit what someone can earn?

Just take some of those evil profits and send them to the government. You just admitted it would not harm your operational expenses so they must be "excess profits".

Why not just directly donate to them although I agree most could do a better job than the government.

The tax cut for the wealthy is permanent, while the tax cut for everyone else was for eight years then elapses.

The tax system is neither fair nor equal. It is a form of income redistribution which goes way beyond the role of government in my opinion.

That is simply not true. The permanent tax cut was for businesses, not the wealthy. The personal tax cuts were there just to sell the business tax cuts to the public. The purpose was to help US businesses be more competitive in the world marketplace. Since business profits are the source of all wealth, it set off the current economic surge. In other words, it worked and it worked for everybody, including you.

Make my rate, and the rate of everyone like me 20%, and there will be tons of money to spend into the economy, and capital to create business

Which of course begs the question to those who claim it is not fair now, then what would be fair if the top 1% paying 40% of income taxes and the bottom 50% paying virtually nothing is not fair.

Prove the tax rates on the highest earners is permanent but for the lower earners temporary.
