Well now you'll also have to pay the 5% increase in goods you buy too

Please define how many is acceptable to - "substantially stops".

Oh and if the US importers can't find an alternative source for these products that are cheaper than the Mexican goods with the 25% tarif then those Mexican products will still be bought and the increase paid for by American consumers

In other words, the American people are going to pay for the wall because increased tariffs mean increased prices for US consumers to pay. So he's penalizing Americans because Mexico isn't stopping the flow of illegal immigrants into this country.. :disbelief:

Recently, Trump renegotiated NAFTA with Canada and Mexico, so is this tariff in line with the new agreement?

You're assuming that Trump is capable of linking these points together. Don't be surprised when Trump announces tomorrow that he was misunderstood yesterday and did not mean what was reported.

Just throwing this in : Goods exports totaled $236 billion; Goods imports totaled $295 billion so not much difference and will be damaging if Mexico retailiates.

Trump is doing to the US stock market what he did for casinos. Good luck with those domestic manufacturing jobs when supply lines are disrupted. A company would have to be buggy to consider the US as a base of operation.

    Mad about what exactly?

If someone doesn't understand what a tariff is and what it does, that is not really something I would get angry about. If anything I would find it amusing

I would agree with you if

    1. The rate remained at 5%
    2. Taco Bell's tacos were actually imported from Mexico
    3. The broader economic impact was no greater than paying a nickel more for tacos
    4. This would benefited the US economy
    5. Hurting Mexico's economy didn't encourage more people to migrate from Mexico
and 6. Breaking trade agreements wouldn't discourage other countries from making new agreements with us

but unfortunately, none of these things are true

That $180 billion number is a hypothetical created number about their labor worth. Nationwide, illegals only contribute to about $10-15 billion in income taxes generated. Could that $180m number have been generated from some left leaning think tank? Who knows.

What we do know is the cost of Illegal immigrants in California is about $25-30 billion per year while Illegals nationwide are paying only $10-15 billion in taxes.

But, enjoy having your maids and lawn maintenance cheap over there.

Cost us more money. LOL. We spend $113 billion on illegals in a year. You don't cry about that.

I keep forgetting how "hard working" these illegals are especially when I see an illegal immigrant walking down the street in the middle of the day with four kids in tow.
Will it cost us more than a $113 billion dollars/year, because that is how much we spend on illegals every year. Besides that, America's homeless would have a chance at getting government subsidized housing that now goes to illegals. Its a win win.

Sanctuary cities don’t hire illegal immigrants, but businesses sure do. So I would advise Trump to penalize those businesses so as to turn off the money spigot that is encouraging so many immigrants to risk their lives to come here and enabling them to stay here earning a living.

Gee, why don’t you think Trump will do anything like that? Are you smart enough to figure it out?

Mexican's don't feel their own country is worth cleaning up.

They break the law to come here and piss on our laws, while taking handouts that should be going to citizens.

They can kick it in Monterrey, we are closed.

Destabilizing Mexico's already shaky government is not a "win" in anyone's books.
Visualize an Afghanistan right on our border.
Either we have to go in and clean up the mess - which will costs trillions of dollars, or we give it up to the Chinese, which will still cost us trillions of dollars.

Or - heaven forbid - we start working with them in a more cooperative manner and it costs us far less.

Of course we do. That's what causes the drop in consumption of those taxed products and new markets to be developed.

I suggest the 82nd and the 101st Airborne at sunset all along the border. That will secure most needed areas and scare the **** out of the illegal aliens waiting just across the border waiting for the cover of darkness to cross.

Armored and Infantry coming in by the 1,000's throughout the night with their support to follow shortly. Navy gunboats at and near the Pacific shore and the Gulf of Mexihole as well.
