Board: Omar violated Minnesota campaign finance rules

So, not only is Ilhan Omar an American hating anti-Semite, she is also a crook.

I just can't believe some of the extreme Democratic freshmen that were elected in 2018.

This country is screwed if these people gain control of both chambers and the Presidency.

I understand that we all love to pile up on the other side of the aisle, but this is incredibly weak. While legally, I guess she ran afoul of the law, one can easily see how these are accounting mistakes and not in any way shape or form intentional fraud. As a layman, I would have thought that all those expenses would CLEARLY be covered by the law. Clearly I am no expert, and someone in her campaign isn't either, but to try to make a big deal out of this is ridiculous.
Especially when republicans just reelected Duncan Hunter who misused 250000 dollars of campaign funds for CLEARLY personal stuff ( "The expenses included $1,302 in charges for video games, $600 to pay for a family rabbit to travel by plane, clothing from Abercrombie & Fitch,[120] a donation to their son's school, payments to an oral and maxillofacial surgeon, travel costs including 32 payments for airfare, hotel stays in Arizona and Italy,[120] groceries, a nail salon visit, tuition, non-specified items at a surf shop,[122] and outdoor equipment" from wikipedia)

 

NO! Dsouza found straw donors for his candidate of choice so that he could knowingly break the law that limits contributions. He tried to circumvent the law, and to leave no paper trail.
Omar's expenses were declared and there to be seen and audited.

Not evenly remotely comparable. You may find Dsouza's penalty excessive, but to say they are the same thing is preposterous

 

Well said, and excellent counter with Hunter.... Those 2 examples are not even close to examples of genuine misuse of campaign funds, although I understand most of those payments were made by his wife (not that it matters)...

But neither of those remotely touches the campaign finance violations of Individual 1....

 

Your right it's hard to touch Obama's 1 million dollar Campaign Finance Fine. I believe it's a record. Tell us again how big Trumps was?

 

So why did she need to travel out of state to campaign for state representative?

 

Trump's was criminal, not fineable... Somebody went to prison, in part, as a result. There were immunity agreements involved and Trump was named as the person directing the conspiracy.

Obama's was his campaign missing filing deadlines, that he wasn't personally involved in.

No comparison... It's Apples vs Buicks....

 

I have no problem with attacking misuse of campaign funds by both sides of the aisles. I particularily despise family members benefitting from fictitious 'consultant' jobs, and even worse 'lobbying' jobs. And there are plenty of examples on both sides of the aisles that we should never accept (I know that there are many dems that fit that bill, I will never defend the people who are clearly gaming the system)
My only point is that this particular attack seems completely unwarranted. At the end of the day, she was fined 500 bucks for expenses that most any of us would have thought were campaign related.

 

Politics are her life, and politics is all that she involves. So if she used that money to travel for, politics, then it is ridiculous to say she violated campaign finance rules since her entire political life hinges on her reaches the highest plateau of politics ---and the spending of resources/funds for that daily political business:

The Dems are doing to her, what they did to Trump.

 

You don't think that state representatives' jobs ever take them out of state?!?
She is invited to speak at these events due to being a state representative. I would have thought that by going, and elevating her image (in state and out of state) this would be a good way to burnish her image and get contributions from in and out of state. Clearly, this goes against campaign finance rules, though I'm not sure how.
