To be fair, I considered building a garden box in such a shape to maximize area and ease of access. But I expected that I would be the target of unending drama, so I scrapped the idea. I also didn't want to be associated with the moron outside of town who flew a KKK flag at his driveway entrance. He has since moved on (something about being evicted for abusing a horse...) but still its unfortunate that so many folks are so offended by such a potentially efficient shape.

His property, his right. So long as he hasn't signed a HOA or something, he should be able to do w/e he wants with his property. But realistically speaking, he's asking for trouble.

And yet, discriminatory real estate covenants are not allowed.

Does sound a bit inconsistent in a way.

We've had posters on this forum who would probably be thrilled to have it.

Good point....I considered myself an unregistered one 20 years ago, but God knows what the definition is today...

My basic philosophy is that one should be able to do what one likes, as long as it doesn't negatively impact others...

    What's that??

Depends whether you see those who are easily offended as being 'negatively impacted' or not.

The growing trend is to believe we're responsible for how others feel...

Because land is also a good (as in goods and services) and you cannot discriminate by race in sales of goods or services.

Its not inconsistent but that might be hard for you to see if you don't understand what you're talking about.

How nice it is to live in the country. No HOA, no street noise, just crickets at night and whitetail deer feeding in the hay field just before dawn.

Not something I would do but it is his property. I can understand why neighbors would be upset, doubt if that will raise his property value.

I disagree with objecting to a large swastika in your neighborhood as being "easily" offended, but OK... Potential negative impacts here are more tangible, such as property values, increased vandalism, bad press, that could affect the whole neighborhood

I don't generally care all that much how people around me feel, but I also don't go out of my way to give them a reason to feel negatively about me or my family.

There are HOAs, I'm not sure how much power they have in California, but they can act within their ability. And some places that means the ability to start a foreclosure.

    They're brownshirts in CA.

It's funny how they complain about the Nazi's, but love to live like them.

I have a hard time justifying govt mandated decency, but even I cant really find a good way to excuse this. The only thing I can come up would be for a Buddist to do this.

Christians used to too, but I think we know that is not the case here

Christians also used the burning cross, but not many do today

the kkk left a stain on it that can't be washed off

I understand the idea behind an HOA. If you didn't have one people would do some really weird things and it might make it impossible to sell your home for the value that it would have without your neighbor's junkyard or giant swastika.

HOAs exist in every state, and all the ones I’ve lived in had the right to start foreclosure proceedings for egregious violations. Just comes down to if he’s in one and if they consider it to be a violation.

No, you don't know what the case is here, you just assume you do.

A stain that only exists in the leftists mind, Hindu's in 2019 don't see it any differently than they always have.
