By 'working hard' I mean self-discipline. It takes protracted and very focused effort to resist all temptations over many years.

And that 'satisfaction with their lot' is why people don't move ahead. Which is absolutely fine, as long as they don't complain about it.

No such thing as no strings attached. How much would it cost to get $500.00 from tax payers, through the government and back to the tax payer? This is really income for the government.

Its costs nothing to leave the money in the hands of those who earned it in the first place.

I really do not think that the far-left Rashida Tlaib--a member of the Democratic Socialists of America--is typical of American thinking.

I think you should surround yourself with people that don't complain. And what is wrong with complaining. And if your kid gets sick or you do- what does your self discipline do for you.

The self-discipline being promoted is intended for the purpose of "mov[ing] ahead." (If one is concerned--and reasonably so--about one's getting sick, or one's child getting sick, then one should work for a living--and not simply expect a handout from society.)

I do. But I hear others outside of my immediate circles complaining about their freely chosen poverty, all the time. I even have relatives who do it!

Not sure why you asked about accidents/illnesses? Presumably some kind of reference to health care? But in answer, we seek treatment. We don't pay for healthcare in this country (or rather, we pay a small tax levy - about 2%). I haven't handed a single cent to a medical practitioner - GP, specialist, or hospital, in about 30 years.

And for all people to receive $77 a week, how much money needs to be taken from people who earned it?

Weath redistribution is an evil concept.
If you want more money work your ass off for it. That is a good moral concept.

No, wealth redistribution isn't evil. We all have to live here.

Anyone want to tell me the difference between the working class and the middle class?

Are you voting for your interests, or have you become brainwashed by the corporations and vote against your interests?

Yes it's evil it's called theft.. yeah we all have to live here. So what?
There should be wealth distribution. It's called spending money to buy the things you need and want. If you don't have enough work harder.

True it is not evil but it is MANDATORY according to the Bible's teaching. Since so many righties claim to be Christian let's see them prove it by selling all they have and giving it to the poor as is required in the holy book.

Make an educated guess. There are a limited number of ways to pay for it. Which one do you think they will use?

Dude, Jeff Bezos, made 11 billion in profits and paid ZERO tax..............Your part of the problem, and definitely not part of any solution!

That 11 billion could feed the word.....but I guess looking at the big picture is beyond your grasp!

Perhaps you need to research and find out the difference between wealth redistribution, and helping one's neighbor. One involves the government, the other doesn't.

Then petition to correct the tax code that permits Bezos to not pay taxes.

Your post, at face value, says you feel Bezos should have NO profit, because it could feed the world. Do you see a problem with that?

I'm sorry to break this to you, but 'feeding the world', will not end war. Do you understand what 'war' is usually driven by?

I am not 'standing up for wealth', if you don't like the IRS code and loopholes, you shouldn't be limiting it to 'voting'. Go sit in your Representatives office, write a petition, go to DC... there are many ways to make yourself effectively heard.

I tire of explaining to those that just want to kick and scream, that if they aren't willing to actually do something to correct the true issue, then they really don't have a leg to stand on....

The middle class is financially secure, and will not lose their house/car etc in a bad economic climate. They own their home outright, and will often also have other assets (shares, investment property, etc).

The working class is anyone who does not own their home outright, and/or who will be adversely impacted if the economic climate changes .. perhaps needing to sell their over-mortgaged home, or move to a cheaper area.

What we now often refer to as "the working class" used to be referred to as "the lower-middle class." (Alternatively, it was sometimes referred to as "blue-collar workers.")

Well, I guess it could be done with a VAT tax. That's the way Andrew Yang is doing it. It could also be done With an income tax. Or it could be done with a sales tax. Or a tax credit in the way of a negative income Tax.

Well, I guess the Democrats are using the wording "working class" to try and disguise the fact that they are not going to give the middle class a break.
