You are incorrect. Our problems are not the result of under-taxing. If you feel we are better off with a big, powerful government, feel free to send them as much as you want. Just don't complain when they use that power against you.

However, it wouldn't surprise me if he, at one point, did the stupid and slapped tariffs on Mexico just to keep his base engaged like you are now.

 

How can you decide how to spend money that was forcefully confiscated from you? They may decide to buy bombs to drop on countries that never attacked us! Maybe they can use it to imprison even more Americans! Much better than anything you can think of, right?

 

Tariffs are a surtax on imported items and that money to buy those taxed products comes out of our pockets. Same as income tax, and if you choose not to buy that imported product, you will buy American made at much higher prices and still pay more. My guess is that Trump will use this surtax revenue to either pay down the national debt or pay for his wall that Mexico isn't going to pay for, probably the latter.

 

Cory Booker sounds like he's pro tariff.

 

He may be, but opposed to the alienation that Trump is causing with his "bull in a china shop" approach.
