"The state of California has made no secret that it wants to let as many people out of prison as possible.

From the early release of inmates through AB 109, to filling parole boards with felon friendly commissioners, to decriminalizing a litany of felonies and drug offenses with Props 47 and 57, Sacramento lawmakers are bending over backwards to dramatically reduce the state’s inmate population."

    California's state prisons are overcrowded.

They're almost warehousing them now in giant rooms with aisles of bunk beds, like a supermarket.

It's almost getting to the point of being borderline inhumane.

    About 40-50% of them.

We can't know because the state makes sure those statistics remain concealed.

most states already allow that, mine is a republican state and we do, now, they may not be selected, but they are still required to show up for jury duty

many look for a way to get out of jury duty, but they like everyone else need to show up if ordered to do so

most states even allow ex-felons to vote

they did the crime, they did their time, debt paid in full as far as the state is concerned

I think being able to serve on a jury should be a right, not just a drudgery obligation.

If someone loses that civil right it should be because a jury specifically took it away from them, and decided it was appropriate, in addition to finding them guilty of the crime.

They can still use convicted felons as a reserve pool in case the other jurors who were supposed to don't show up, which frequently happens.
(Ever been to a jury selection? They have a lot of extras who are sent home)

No reason to give convicted felons the added benefit of getting out of jury duty for life.

agree, we have forgotten that punishment is done during sentencing, the length and mode of punishment, once that is served the punishment is supposed to end as far as the government is concerned

rights are rights, not privileges, if one has to have the privilege to have a right, then rights become privileges

While my wife and I escaped from California, her two sisters still live there. Both of them hate Trump and are extremely liberal, but even the two of them are saying California is going too far and that has them pondering moving out and contaminating another state.

Hopefully they can move (with 100,000 others) to PA, MI, and WI (in time to Vote Dem in 2020).

    Sounds like a plan.:salute:

Who cares, they are prisoners, they don't deserve comfort.

Prison should not be a place of comfort with cable tv it should be a place you are lucky if you survive.

What’s that have to do with letting felons serve?

If you were robbed, raped and murdered by a thug, would you want a jury of that thug’s peers deciding what happens next?

I think people who serve their sentence shouldn’t continue to be punished. Do you want cocaine dealers deciding what happens to cocaine dealers? Trump does.

Is there any subject you can talk about without bringing up Trump? Do you want gang bangers deciding what happens to gang bangers? How about pedophiles? I’m sure you would love Comey and MCCabe being jurors on Clinton’s trial.

If they hate how extreme California is getting for them, then why would they want to move to a free state and contaminate that state and worse allow the extreme left-winger politicians to control the entire nation. That just doesn't make much sense.

Just think of pedophiles on the jury deciding the fate of another pedophile....better padlock and chain your kids to your body and throw away the key.

A rapist on a jury for a rape trial?

A bank robber on a jury about a bank robbery?

California is a never ending source of fun.
