The VA tries to own everything. Doctors, hospitals, clinics - everything.
Single payer simply becomes a government owned insurance company.

I’ll do some research into this but my understanding is these committees aren’t made up of govt’ officials but University lecturers in medicine and pharmacy, leading researchers and heads of bodies such as the Australian College of Surgeons, General Practitioners Association (Union?) etc.
They do however meet up with the heads of Gov’t departments when it comes to just released, ultra expensive cancer drugs for instance, the decision to place them on the benefits scheme is a joint academia, government, medical association etc group.

I think they're doing it because our population demands it.

Meanwhile other countries dont bother because... socialized healthcare and over there you get what you get.

 

As a recipient of a brilliant tax payer funded health care system in Australia I’m more than happy with what I get.
The only objection I have is to public hospital food but hey, they have to save money somewhere. Besides, when I had private insurance and ended up in hospital the food was just as awful.
