These tariffs collectively constitute the biggest tax increase since the 90s. And Trump is skirting the Constitution to implement them.

Skirting the Constitution? Are you saying that Obama broke the law?

We drove the companies out of the US.

We demanded that they pay workers high wages.

    We demanded safe workplaces.

We imposed stringent pollution standards on them.

We placed a heavy tax burden on them.

Then, after all of those added costs forced the companies to charge high prices for their products, we refused to buy them.

I'm saying that taxes are Congress's Constitutional authority, not the President's. Actually, it is the Constitution itself saying that.

Funny how the zealot Trump supporters cannot answer to that, which what Trump is doing is socialist.

So is it in the Constitution that Congress creates the law. Trump used the laws Congress passed to raise Tariffs. Totally constitutional in this regard.

You can't change the Constitution with a law. You need an amendment for that. That's covered in the Constitution as well. Congress can't use a law to delegate their Constitutional powers to another branch. This is covered in the Constitution and in Supreme Court cases backing up the Constitution in this regard.

Well, there's the fact that I'm to the right of you and the President on economics, not on the left. Something you've already been corrected on several times. Including recently. Plus I'm a fan of that whole Constitution thing which I keep defending against Trumpists.

So you are saying the Congress cannot make law. Fascinating.

For those that want to keep bending over for other countries that take advantage of past congress critters foolishness, then of course you don't like the idea of using a hammer where words don't work.

So you are saying you didn't read my post. Fascinating. Congress can make laws. Laws can't change the Constitution. You need an AMENDMENT to change the Constitution. This is covered in junior-high level civics classes. The Constitution itself spells it out explicitly. Anyone vaguely familiar with the Constitution knows this. Where am I losing you?

Yet another non-response. I care about lower taxes, the prosperity of our businesses, and Constitutional separation of powers. Not sure why you think those things are controversial.

So you are saying that the laws congress passed are unconsitutional? Prove it.

Unless you pay attention to economics at all. Even if it helped the American people, which it doesn't, I'd still be in favor of following the law instead of violating the Constitution to implement it.

How about lower cost of imported goods. Gosh, that wasn't supposed to happen.

No, he isn't. He's abusing those laws to circumvent the Constitution. Those laws only allow the President to act as the "mere servant" of Congress and under their strict guidelines. That isn't what Trump is doing. Trump is pretending that the law is a blank check that allows him to ignore the Constitution any time he wants so long as he says the magic words "national security." You can support Trump in these efforts or you can support the Constitution. These are mutually exclusive. I've chosen my side.

No one is dumb enough to think that tariffs lowered those costs. Literally no one. Tariffs raise costs. That is the only way they work. Non-tariffed goods may have lowered in cost, but that's a desperate dodge.

Wrong again. He is specifically using laws congress passed. Just because you believe every foolish thing a congress critter claims doesn't make you that smart.

But what about all the whining that this is affecting purchasing now?

Repeated since it was dodged: Those laws only allow the President to act as the "mere servant" of Congress and under their strict guidelines. That isn't what Trump is doing. I believe what the Constitution says, which you keep running away from at every opportunity and have completely failed to address. Pretending that the Constitution doesn't exist doesn't make anyone smart.

For tariffed goods, it is affecting purchasing now. The only people denying that are people who don't understand what tariffs are and how they work.
