I think he's far more truthful than his political detractors. And on this topic, he isn't fabricating or speaking sophistry. It's pretty clear that he is simply relaying gathered intel.

Craig Murray is hardly an objective source. His article shows he has little understanding of the incident. All the limpet mines were placed above the waterline. This is because Iran
doesn't want to sink the tankers - that would be a much bigger International incident. Damaging them has done enough - it caused oil prices to rise and created International anxiety.
Mission accomplished for the Iranians. One mine didn't explode, so Iran had to remove it before the US Navy got hold of it and proved the Iranians were behind the attacks (though
the America haters wouldn't have believed that either). Iran is a despotic theocracy that rules through fear and intimidation. Tyrants can't afford to look weak before their people. By
shooting down the drone and attacking the tankers they are thumbing their nose at the USA with little risk to themselves and looking strong before their oppressed people.

 

Why would Iranians go back to retrieve a mine while the vessel was under camera surveillance?

How do we even know these were Iranians and how do we know what they were doing? The may have been rescuing people from the ship, correct?
