The Dixiecrats were a branch of the DNC, that left to run against FDR, but then came back to the DNC there after. They were slave holders, the GOP abolished slavery long before Dems decided to run a third party against FDR.

Southern conservatives, don't believe in slavery, and believe in equal rights....we are talking about the Dems. The Dems still oppress people today....they do it by creating dependancy, limiting choice, and supporting illegal immigation.

    Huh?

Exactly WHEN did the Dixiecrats "run against FDR"?

Dixiecrat Strom Thurmond ran in 1948 Against TRUMAN.

In the future, please make a better effort to get your facts straight before throwning shade at your political opponents.

Nothing personal, just a friendly reminder.:salute:

    The Dixiecrats ran "against FDR"?:roflol:

ah sorry it was 1948....FDR just died...they were very much a fan of FDR's liberal agenda. It was Truman...sorry... They were short lived and re-joined the DNC there after, in fact taking a loyalty oath to the DNC.https://archive.nytimes.com/www.nytimes.com/library/politics/camp/520725convention-dem-ra.html

13% Obama versus 33% Trump. It Trump were to get 15% of the black vote he'd be a shoe in.

The bet is not dependent upon me proving the claim. It is dependent upon the claim being objectively true based on independent research.

Does Rasmussen provide the demographic and ideological breakdown for the respondents to that question from their most recent survey and the survey conducted at the end of Obama's tenure?

Trump will lose the female vote by at least 15 points and females will outvote males by 3-4%.

I dont know. You tell me. You did all the research prior to making your claim. So show the proof at 100% of the people saying that Trump is better for blacks are white Republicans.

If you believe I did the research before making the claim, wouldn't that make you a moron for agreeing to take the bet?

    https://billmoyers.com/2013/06/25/supreme-court-guts-voting-rights-act/

The question you should be asking, is why the GOP blocks any attempt to reinstate it.

As for modernizing Jim Crow laws, voter suppression legislation was introduced in nearly every former Jim Crow southern state and generally enacted. These included voter ID laws, which contained provision making it much harder to obtain ID, odd, obscure limitations on what constituted an acceptable ID (for instance, in Texas, a gun registration is an acceptable ID, a student ID card is not) closing or limiting machines and hours in districts where minorities vote, and rampant gerrymandering.

That “one man” happened to be a candidate for the US Senate on a national television news program.

The way conservative media reacted was telling. They not only did not disown Paul’s remarks, but they defended them and attacked Rachel Maddow for asking the question.

Voter ID laws aren't Jim Crow laws...and they have been enacted in just about every state in someway...even the Federal Govt requres it and has since 2002, in a bill that passed the House 357-48 and the Senate 92-2

Yes, one man...who had the same position as his father, because of their liberation views, nothing to do with race. Of course he is allowed to have that view...it wasn't a race view that Maddow and the left tried to falsely claim.

The real 'shy Trump' vote - how 53% of white women pushed him to victory
For months, the image of the Donald Trump’s supporter has been the face of an angry white man. But it was white women who pushed Trump to victory.
Rejecting the candidate who had aimed to be America’s first female president, 53% of white women voted for Trump, according to CNN exit polls.

White women without a college degree supported Trump over Hillary Clinton by nearly a two to one margin. White women with a college degree were more evenly divided, with 45% supporting Trump, compared with 51% supporting Clinton.
    https://www.theguardian.com/us-news/2016/nov/10/white-women-donald-trump-victory

And if he increase his black female vote to 15% he is a shoe in.

This is one of the more offensive and particularly dishonest arguments the talk radio right has embraced.

It is a downright Orwellian attempt to rewrite history, and it has adherents all over the right wing and racist world.

I first heard it on Rush Limbaugh’s radio show sometime in the 1990’s. I almost drove off the road!

Limbaugh is old enough to remember the civil rights movement (as I am), so there is no question that he knew that the meme he was peddling was false.

It wraps itself in “party of Lincoln” mythology ,and tries to rewrite Reconstruction as a period of glorious enlightenment, instead of military occupation and plunder. This would have come as an absolute shock to the white folk in the Jim Crow south of that time.

But the meme does two things. It plants a false revisionist view of history in the minds of people too young to remember, and it acts as validation for the denial of racists who still resent civil rights to this day.

    FAlse on both counts.

The explosion of voter ID laws that began in the 2000’s are intended as voter suppression efforts. The gerrymandering has been so blatant that GOP politician have even admitted it and several judges have pointed it out.

And Paul’s remark was all about race. Title 7 forbids discrimination in public accommodation and is the core of the Civil Rights Act.

Paul’s caluculus was to dog whistle to a racist audience and take advantage of the simmering resentment of the angry white right wing over the fact that a black man was in the White House.

Rachel Maddow made no attempt whatsoever to characterize Paul’s remark at all. Indeed, she repeated the question, and gave him a chance to rethink or clarify his remarks. Which he did not do. His statement stood on its own, and required no help from anyone.

This is widespread, and is why Trump race baits openly (and will do so tonight).

Oh, and there is no such thing as a Federal Voter ID law.

Post you numbers if you got a point to make, the fact is if he can increase his black women's vote to 15% along with the total black vote he is a shoe in.

Appealing to the ignorant raging masses is not an argument for much. That said - I would agree that blacks are fairing better under Trump than they did under Obama - especially in Obama's first term when the stock market and economy had collapsed.

Did the poll numbers for Obama come from early in Obama's term or at the end ? - as this would matter.

At the end of the day - the economy is doing better under Trump. This is a function of recovery from the crash but also debt financing of economic growth = short term gains for long term losses. Any idiot can add a few points to GDP by massive increases in deficit spending. What is difficult is adding to GDP while reducing deficit spending.

Average Joe of course does not think of this - they only focus on the short term gain.

The Voting Rights Act survived almost constant assault from the right wing, until they managed to get the activist judges they preferred.

I already asked you the obvious question. Why does the GOP block every attempt to reinstate the core of the act?

You tried to pretend you didn’t hear that one.
