Yeah like Iraq's military did for the three weeks it took to defeat them and send them running into hiding.

ROFL yes inspections with months of advance notice and inspections on military bases forbidden. It was a HORRIBLE deal and they are still under it with other countries, the US doesn't dictate policy to them it is ALL their choice. It would be like the Keystone Kops in Iraq running around blind, going into the fronts of suspected sites while the Iraqi's were sneaking things out the back door.

And the coup was not and is not the legitimate government of Iraq. So what did we get back for all that money?

We went to war with Iraq, then they held elections to form their own government.

I thought Obama's foreign policy was utterly confused, and I thought his use of military force was completely irresponsible. Think about what he did to Libya and Syria, two countries that were absolutely no threat to us or our allies. Meanwhile, he did zero about North Korea's development of nuclear weapons - weapons that are well on their way to being able to reach the U.S. He did nothing. And then he sent a boob like John Kerry to negotiate a deal with the Iranians. He was so desperate to add something to his legacy that any deal, no matter how poor a deal, would suffice, and, predictably, that's what we got.

As far as Iran goes, the goal should not be a war, but to keep the pressure on. I just listened to President Trump talking about the Iranian shootdown of a drone. He sounded completely in control, didn't make any brash statements or threats. I think there will be a U.S. response to this incident, but it will be a quick strike - probably on the SAM site that took out the drone. I do not see President Trump getting us into a war with Iran.

One thing I wish he would do would be to pull our troops out of Syria and Iraq. They are not really doing anything there other than becoming targets. The mission to disenfranchise ISIS is over.
What is left is tribal warfare, basically, of the sort that has been going on for centuries. Prior to 2003, the western world just left them to it. It will not threaten our security one little bit to get out of those countries and let them sort out their own problems.

The Iraqi army and air force were defeated before the first bomb was dropped in the Second Iraq War. There is a reason it took less than a month for U.S. forces to capture Baghdad.

Yet the war dragged on for over eight years. The coalition forces lost over 5,000 dead and 30,000 wounded. It is estimated that over one million Iraqis were killed. The CBO estimated about $1.9 trillion, or $6,300 per U.S. citizen, was spent on the Iraq War..

The IRGC has no such problem and they are very well trained and extremely dedicated. They have some of the most sophisticated warplanes on the planet along with ballistic missiles and cruise missiles that can hit our ships.

The Iraq War would be a walk in the park compared to a war with Iran and her proxies. Adding to the size of the conflict, Israel would likely join the hostilities.

Trump doesn't seem aware of what he started when he trashed the JCPOA.

Yes when Al Qaeda moved it's front to Iraq and started their war against us there as Obama promised to retreat. And they lost far more than us including that war. Iraq would not stand a chance against our coalition forces. And Trump didn't start hostile actions, Iran did. They should realize they are not dealing with a spineless Obama who thought he could appease them. And the Democrats better get behind him and stop with our primary goal is to not go to war, our primary goal should be to establish safe passage in the Persian Gulf and Straits to all shipping and safe skies without interference especially military interference by Iran.

    No, Trump did.
Trump withdrew the U.S. from the nuclear deal with Tehran that permanently barred Iran from making a nuke.

In an interview with Time, Trump described what kind of provocation he believes would justify military action. "I would certainly go [to war] over nuclear weapons."

Trump ratcheted up sanctions — including, in April, a move to shut down Iran’s remaining oil exports.

Trump offered up a dozen draconian U.S. dictates that would completely reverse Iran's foreign policy, essentially calling for regime change.

On May 5th, Trump ordered a battleship-carrier strike group (CBG), led by the U.S.S. Abraham Lincoln, and a bomber task force, including B-52s, deployed off Iran’s coast.

Five days later, on May 10th, Trump ordered a second display of force: the U.S.S. Arlington and a battery of Patriot missile systems would join the Abraham Lincoln.

The U.S. military provoked the incident yesterday. The military sent up a drone to spy on Iran, and it was positioned 8 to 10 miles from the territorial waters of Iran according to CentCom. It was on a spying mission when it was shot down. Even if we believe the drone was in international waters, who provoked who?

Another question. Does Trump know what he is doing? It doesn't sound like it. He poked a bee hive, and he doesn't like the consequences.

Last time I checked, it was Israel not Iran who attacked the USS Liberty murdering many sailors and doing it's best to sink it. Now tell me why we are attacking Iran????

That's not a hostile act go learn the difference. And neither is flying our surveilance drones over international waters to protect ships in international waters fro Iranian hostile acts like trying to blow them up.

If you're so eager for more Americans to die for Israel's regional hegemony (the Oded Yinon Plan) why don't you go first?

Remember who pushed America into the last disastrous war for Israel:

“QUIETLY LOBBYING CONGRESS TO APPROVE THE USE OF FORCE IN IRAQ WAS ONE OF AIPAC’S SUCCESSES OVER THE PAST YEAR.”

AIPAC Executive Director Howard Kohr; N.Y. Sun, Jan. 2003

Loyal Americans are sick of sacrificing American blood & resources so that Israel can torment its non nuclear neighbors with impunity.

The term is deliberate act of war. Isralel is not our friend. Why the hell should we fight a war in their behalf?

    Spare me the strawmen
    I don't know of one.

Saddam forced the war against himself

Who else is going to enforce international shipping lanes?

Israel's deliberate attack on America's USS Liberty is no "conspiracy theory" as the bodies of 34 burned & mangled American G.I.s will attest.

Perhaps if you had ever served in the US Military that might mean something to you.

It also exemplifies the lengths to which Israel will go to deceive America into fighting its wars and is just as relevant today while the US is on war footing as it was 52 years ago.

So, you are saying "The devil made them do it", and it's all our fault that they have to resort to things like suicide bombing at shopping malls, backing Isis and other terrorists who kill for the sake of killing, and must threaten the entire non-muslim world, as well as some muslim neighbors, because it's so unfair that they are not masters of the universe? Something like that?

And if we just gave them thermonuclear weapons, they would be happy and everything would be peaceful.....

Kudos to you and jdog for pointing out that it is Israel, not Iran, that is the biggest threat to the peace of the ME.

The attack on the USS Liberty is not a conspiracy theory, it is a fact. Israel attacked a US Navy warship after making positive identification of it. The plan was to sink it and blame it on Egypt to bring the US into the war. And this is not the only time Israel has launched false flag operations to involve the US in war in the Middle East.. Damn Israel to hell. No American blood to defend Israel.
