No idea if this is good or bad policy. Time will answer that question for us. Too bad Trump won’t be here to see it.

Don't worry, if a democrat gets in then we can go back to the American tax payer bending over and getting screwed by government inaction.

 

I really am curious, but what would the progressives have us do here? Continue to be the world police? or not? If the US does leave the region, and the region melts down, as it historically has, then what? What would our progressive members want us to do? More policing? Less? Progressives all tell us that the answer is a peaceful global economy. Does having a hot war in the ME really get them there?

The US is energy independent, not that it ever wasn't. The "get the other guy to run out first" paradigm was just vastly more profitable for the oil folks who were propping up the globalists.

No, I think Its Trumps plan to have China go in the persian gulf with their own navy instead of ours.

China is the one buying oil from Iran, not us.

China doesnt want to abide by our Iranian sanctions.

They can send their own navy.

It was the billions that Obama sent to Iran that allowed them to cause the destruction of Yemen and to launch countless terrorist actions around the globe.

 

So they’ll need to expand their navy and their sphere of influence in the ME. Now it **** goes sideways we have less leverage over China and Iran.

It gave us little leverage, sunsetted, and allowed Iran to skate.

The Sanctions are giving us real leverage.

 

Chinese navy is a green water navy-not capable of projecting force beyond its coasts.

China's broke as is, if they need to build up a blue water navy it will take them years, cost them a LOT, and all the while, oil will be expensive for them.

At the same time, our allies in the region like Japan and North Korea already have a more advanced navy and their economies are doing far better.

This is the "Asia Pivot" that couldn't really happen until the US became fully energy independent which Obama wouldn't do.

Yes, but even those carriers are 70's soviet designs.

They also don't have a carrier fleet to support them.

They ARE gaining experience in carrier born ops, but that takes decades of real use, in conflicts and in peacetime. They don't have it.

When their first carrier was built-there were reports that China was watching the movie Top Gun to get ideas on carrier ops.
