No, it was not. That was caused by the banks giving people refinancing on properties for 1million when they had just bought it a year before for $500,000. Just why normally rational institutions suddenly came to the conclusion that the price of their main asset would always rise and why none of them had never read Extraordinary Popular Delusions and the Madness of Crowds I will never understand, but one guy "walking away" from a million dollar debt when he realized he was "upside down" by about a half mill would lose the bank more money than 10 loans under 100,000 and there were more of the bad big refis than there were even smaller loan applications. There was also the practice of cutting the loans up and selling them to many different banks, which had been illegal for good reason since the Depression but was one of the first things that Gingrichs's Goons overturned in 1999, so when they went to collect on defaults they didn't even know who to pay (and many people buying properties suddenly found they had mortgages not even the banks knew about)

Oh the Republicans have always done such great things with the economy, like coming up with accounting/banking tricks to rob us blind and then blaming poor people and democrats for it when their kleptocracy bankrupts us.

 

What do you mean by "public"? There ARE public colleges/universities and trade schools, i.e. run by states and subsidized by taxpayers. Public generally cost much less than private schools, but are by no means free. Any loan for any reason can be a struggle to pay back depending on one's circumstances, but as you said, I can't think of a better investment of loan proceeds than education (within reason).

 

But do you invariably get a good job just because of a Ivy League degree?

Going to a State College can cost MUCH less and if you have good grades it can matter much more having a degree that is in demand rather than having one from an "Ivy League" college

agree, it's playing on America's heart strings, almost everyone thinks slavery was wrong and should never be allowed to happen again, but also most know it's too late for reparations now as all the slaves are long sense deceased - we need to focus on raising all the poor and middle class up, that benefits all races

Black people are NOT being discriminated by banks for mortgages. Anyone who has applied for a mortgage lately knows that in many cases, you never even have to set foot inside the bank/office for the application. It can all be done by email/snailmail/esign, etc. There is nowhere on the application asking you for your race. Also, it's not the loan officer or processor you deal with who determines if you are approved, it's an underwriter (in a different location completely) who approves or denies your application. They never lay eyes on the applicants. They go strictly off of the documented facts. So lets stop it with the racism claims. They don't exist.
