She advertised herself as married to a man she claims is the father of her three children, while she is also married to another man—who may be her brother. A posting on the SomaliSpot discussion board alleged that Omar had married the man touted as her husband in 2002 before marrying her brother for fraudulent purposes in 2009. The post, which seems to have been written by someone from Minneapolis’s Somali community, was quickly deleted. This suggests that Omar engaged in some kind of dishonest activity in connection with her marriage to her brother (which by itself would be illegal).

The Minnesota Official Marriage System has two marriages listed for anti-American Jew-hater Omar a 2002 marriage to her husband, Ahmed Aden (later Ahmed Hirsi), and her 2009 marriage to Ahmed Nur Said Elmi (identified in the SomaliSpot post as Omar’s brother).

Omar campaign refused to answer whether Omar’s second marriage had been entered into with her brother for dishonest purposes. Omar's attorney implied that the question itself evidenced bigotry against Omar and her candidacy for public office.

Omar married her current legal husband—Ahmed Nur Said Elmi—in 2009, at the same time she described her 2002 husband as “the love of her life,” and then declared that statement would be Omar’s last word on the matter.

One does wonder, however, if a public office holder can unilaterally declare a significant matter of public interest off-limits from discussion. It’s not as though Omar hasn’t injected her family into the campaign. She features husband Number One and their three children on her campaign website, though she has omitted any mention of husband Number Two—who is her current legal husband. One specific question to which Omar has provided no response is: Does she have a brother named Ahmed Nur Said Elmi?

Writing for the Minnesota-based site Alpha News, Preya Samsundar is untroubled by the Omar campaign’s cries of racism. She comes from a family of Guyanese immigrants who trace their lineage to indentured Indian servants brought to Guyana by the British. Using social media as a primary source, Samsundar has found information suggesting that Elmi, the man Omar married in Minnesota in 2009, is indeed her brother. Omar’s own Instagram photos from the summer of 2015 place her in London with relatives, and with a man later identified as Ahmed Nur Said Elmi. Soon after her marital history became an issue, however, Omar closed her Instagram account to the public. When the account became public again, Samsundar found that the original photo collage of Omar and Elmi was no longer included. Samsundar also discovered that accounts once connected to Elmi have disappeared since the controversy began. Even LinkedIn pages and Elmi’s professional portfolio pages have gone missing.

Based on her reporting, Samsundar believes that Omar’s siblings include Ahmed Nur Said Elmi and Mohamed Nur Said Elmi, both residents of the United Kingdom. Their social media accounts have referred to Omar as their sister. Samsundar found comments and posts by Omar and Elmi showing an intimate relationship even after their supposed 2011 marital split. Samsundar put it to me this way: “I think social media prove without a doubt that there is a familial relationship that is not that of a husband and wife.”

It"s just unbelievable how far democrats,liberals etc. whatever you call them,will go in order to deny obvious.Let me break down to you in simple terms.It's perfectly normal in Somali communities to marry close relatives.Uncles marry nieces, first cousins marry each other, brothers marry sisters etc...As a matter of fact in other predominatly Sunni Muslim countries a custom of marrying close blood relatives also exists.Somalis in Europe are known as the state benefit shoppers.They were moving from one country to another depending which one was offering better benefits so they picked Sweden and the UK in most cases.Large families,mostly unemployed claiming housing benefit and other state benefits for life.Bigamy is also normal occurence within a British Somali community.

Annnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnd that's the actual critical difference between Trump and all his predecessors -- with the exception of Ronald Reagan of course -- in that Trump actually will fight back. The other critical difference between Trump and everyone except R.R. is that Trump also tried very hard to keep most of his campaign promises.

 

He usually goes for the full hat trick. He is all of those things, and he’s just about at the point where he will openly declare his racism. Many of his fans are already doing it, or doing something like “I have no problem with racism” (something I have seen on this forum and heard on the radio from a Trumpster yesterday).

Trump’s core theme has always been race baiting. He is building a white people against the world narrative as the core theme of his re-election campaign.

 

This is the kind of perspective one gets when noise substitutes for achievement.

Trump makes noise, and he has an entire right wing media apparatus to act as a bullhorn for it.

A key part of that is making sure that audience is distracted and entertained while Trump and the folks he has co opted loot the treasury, sell their offices (as Trump had done from day one) and accomplish almost nothing in the real world.

But past a bunch of name calling, manufactured outrage over trivia and bluster, and experience shows that you can sell the reactionary right anything (and get them to pay, too!)

If Omar had been elected as governor instead of congresswomen, she'd have pardoned the 9 Somali terrorists she defended in Minneapolis. Omar says America's treatment of Somali refugees is what inspires them to become terrorists. I guess if anyone's in a position to know just how easily Somali refugees can be radicalized, it's Ilhan Omar. Her district is "home" to about 50,000 potential terrorists.
