I LIVE in a country with a two tier system. We have Medicare and we also have the option of private health on top of that with a nice government rebate.

    Biggest thing

Our small business owners do not have to hunt around for healthcare for employees. That money that they are currently paying in America can go into direct wages

And our government run system is cheaper

Makes more sense if everyone has baseline cover then private becomes an option

    I. Would dispute that

America got bloody lucky during the SARS epidemic but it could have gone pear shaped very quickly since you do not have a co ordinated government infrastructure that is available in other countries

How much money does it take to hunt for insurance groups?

Versus how much more those small business owners pay in the increased taxes to pay for Medicare for all?

Three posts into your thread and already you are bringing up Obama. Is that some kind of record?

I have to agree with the pre-existing law.. That should have changed several decades ago with ONE simple law making it a discrimination clause of some sort.. MPO is it give insurance companies to many excuse to deny PAYING customers coverage as they can and will blame a toothache on eating to much candy when you were seven..

Or in my case, shattered a femur at 15 leaving one leg about an inch shorter then the other.. If not for the law to stop that nonsense they could have blamed every back pain on that and any other bullshit that was normal wear and tear from construction life on it too!

You sound very much like a Trump supporter. You and other Trumpets should treat Warren kindly, so to Sanders and Harris.

If either of these three far left progressives -- Sanders is a self-described socialist -- get the Democratic nod, Trump is a shoe-in come November 2020. These three fail to realize that their far left ideas will not be acceptable with a Republican in the White House, a Senate controlled by Republicans while Republicans control a majority of the governorships. They should wait with their far left ideas until after the 2020 elections.

I know that is a bitter pill for Warren, Sanders, and Harris because they each want to be President. But, if they really believe in their progressive ideas, they should face political reality. Now is not the time. The country is not ready, not yet, maybe someday, but not now.

The primary objective, superseding all other objectives, defeat Trump in November 2020. All other matters are secondary.

All government facilities work on triage

If you have come in with chest pain you are a “cat 1” which means being seen by a Dr in 10 minutes tops. If however you have come in because your kid has nits then expect to wait four hours before an irate nurse hands you Nit killer and a comb.

Now our government might close beds over the summer when demand is less, open them again in winter for “flu season” and then if we have a pandemic it will ask medical staff to start delaying non urgent operations. We also have the ability to fly patients around the state and even the country if needed I.e. ECMO. If we do not have the capacity in Qld the patient can be flown to Sydney or Melbourne

If it’s not emergent, 2 weeks is in no way a long wait time.

But it IS the time to air those ideas. Sanders not so much but the other two know this is just their first run. Many are looking at a long term strategy

THEY don’t pay the tax. The levy is paid by everyone

It also means if I want to swap jobs I can - I am not tied by health insurance. Consequently we have a thing called “long service leave”. After 10 years you get a week off paid leave for every year you have worked until then.

And I still can have my own health insurance, my own doctor. Billing is more straight forward and there is no big wrangle with the insurance company before and after over what they will and will not pay.

You can have Medicare as an insurance option for "individuals". Medicare doesn't cover families, it covers individuals. I have advocated for a Medicare Part G. It would be an insurance option to replace Obama Care. It would not be free. The premium would be based on age, income, and whether you want Maternity Coverage. It would be a program totally separate from the Medicare program you pay into through your employer and are eligible for at age 65.

The premiums might have a profit that could help senior Medicare stay a float.

When Medicare was first introduced here they also set up a government run and controlled private health fund called Medibank. The idea was to control insurance costs through competition with Medibank setting the standards and the pricing

Medicare is basically good. But those not yet old enough to get Medicare should pay a premium based on their income until they turn 65. It should not be free.

I have no problem with that. When Obamacare was being created, Obama and many Democrats suggested that there be a “public option” like Medicare available to those who wanted it, but enough whores in the Democratic Party threatened to join with the GOP to prevent any public option from being a part of the plan. So a watered down version was finally passed with no public option.

I would remind you that the healthcare system Democrats were complaining about was Obamacare.

Of course it is. When Democrats had control of it, they ran 2 sets of books so veterans could die waiting for treatment while the bureaucracy looked like a responsive, efficient machine.

    Where to start is right.

First of all, Trump didn't build the cages that house kids. They were there Obama / Biden creations:

    From July 18, 2014
    July182014boys.jpg

Trump didn't invent family separation, the ACLU sued to move kids away from their families and won their great victory in 1997 after years of court battles.
