I've never understood the aversion to choice, other than that Social Security is an absolutely horrible system doomed from the start.

Wages will continue to decline, as traditional employment is becoming irrelevant, and it's hard to make a system that is based upon government debt work long term.

I would enthusiastically endorse what you just proposed, even if it required government involvement.

It works as long as your population expands enough. Unless we solve ageing or something.

    Not true

This from someone who doesn't accept actual experts who say we are destroying the entire planet.

Total nonsense. We could eliminate fossil fuels in ten years with little to no pain. But you and the rest of the trumpers just don't want to hear the solutions. It would mean losing the argument and you would rather destroy the planet.

Population growth has been almost entirely irrelevant the entire time I've been alive, and for a considerable time before I was.

Which is why it was doomed from the start.

    100% WRONG!

The government provides SERVICES and FACILITIES likes roads, airports, etc.

EVERYONE and EVERY BUSINESS that takes advantages of those government provided services and facilities OWES the government for those services and facilities.

NOT paying for them is called THEFT OF SERVICES!

Why does the extreme right believe that they have some imaginary "right" to benefit from those government services WITHOUT PAYING FOR THEM?

It is NEVER "your money" when you OWE it to someone else.

Everyone OWES taxes to the government.

No amount of kneejerk denialism will alter that FACT!

Here is the actual meaning of the term accomplishment.

Merely declaring that the Pacific Ocean is now a "marine preserve" is NOT an accomplishment. It is a FEEL GOOD attempt to DEFLECT ATTENTION from all of the egregious harm that the rest of the GOP's policies were doing to the environment and We the People.

So having seen the CANARDS spewed by the selfserving Bush jr regime let's examine the FACTS instead.

    https://www.sourcewatch.org/index.php/Bush_regime_environmental_record

Documented FACTUAL REALITY debunks your bogus allegation.

Very tall straw man you built there. Now back to the subject and our actual point of disagreement.
It's the earners money he agrees to pay to government for services provided. It is not the government's money and they do not decide how much of your earnings that is their property that you can keep.

    Wrong again!

No, it is NOT "his money" because he has already USED those services and OWES the government for the use of those services.

    Taxes are due POST FACTO!

So the National Monument Act is just feel good attempts to deflect?

Placing 250,000 square miles of ocean permanently off limits to development and fishing has no environmental benefit?

It doesn't when no other nation is prevented from fishing there.

You pay with your money or you get your utilities cut off but that's the decision you make with your money. It's not their money until you give it to them willingly

Tax breaks aren't a kind of subsidy?

Solar and wind are becoming a very big part of the energy industry. Companies like Duke Energy are replacing old coal fired plants with solar because it's cheaper. Gas companies in the Mid West are putting their money in wind. It's the future.

I spent 19 years working for a company that took money from my check to put into a retirement account--except they didn't actually do that. They were using our money like it was their own. We didn't know about until the company folded. If it wasn't for SS, most of those older guys would have had essentially nothing for retirement. I was young enough to start over, but it still put me at a disadvantage.

Point is, the assumption that we only need SS because people aren't smart enough to save doesn't take into account the crooks and leeches in the business world who will steal your pension in a heart beat.

Did you read your own link?

The sweeping move quadruples the size of the Papahānaumokuākea marine national monument, which was originally designated by George W Bush in 2006 and was declared a World Heritage site in 2010.

Who would ever trust their employer with a pension or retirement fund?
