The defenders of white nationalism or supremacism are not helping Trump in the slightest in defending him.

Trump always wants it both ways, meaning he has no core beliefs. He believes whatever is politically expedient at the time. On national television, in front of students from Parkland, Fla., Trump told them and the nation he wanted background checks. That was a year and a half ago. Nothing was done.

On Monday, Trump tweeted that he wanted background checks. A couple hours later, he spoke to the nation and said absolutely nothing about background checks.

Trump, speaking to reporters Wednesday before visiting Dayton, Ohio, and El Paso, where weekend shootings left 31 dead, said there “was great appetite for background checks” amid an outcry over government inaction in the face of repeated mass shootings.

Following the slaughter of innocent civilians, two mass murders committed by white supremacists influenced by the President's hate-filled rhetoric, Trump let it be known that he has repeatedly told lawmakers and aides in private conversations that he is open to endorsing extensive background checks in the wake of the mass shootings. In a way his ham-handed approach is almost comical. He lacks both imagination and discreetness.

Trump's comments prompted a warning from the National Rifle Association, and there were concerns among White House aides. They need not worry. Trump cannot be trusted. He will say whatever is politically advantageous at the moment, and he should never be taken seriously.

The NRA opposes the legislation sponsored by Sens. Patrick J. Toomey (R-Pa.) and Joe Manchin III (D-W.Va.). NRA chief executive Wayne LaPierre spoke with Trump on Tuesday after Trump expressed support for a background check bill and told him it would not be popular among Trump’s supporters.

Trump's sycophant in the Senate, Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.), said he would not bring any gun-control legislation to the floor without widespread Republican support.

Trump knows that will not happen. So, all his talk and tweets about background checks is no more than phony rhetoric designed to win votes and counter his inflammatory statements that encouraged the mass murders in the first place.

Barring another mass shooting, which is entirely possible because Trump defends his rhetoric, this time next week there will be no further talks about background checks. That is what happened after Columbine, Sandy Hook, San Bernardino, Parkland, and Las Vegas, and that is what will happen now.

Describing neo-Nazis, white supremacists, and members of the KKK who participated in an armed invasion of Charlottesville, VA, Trump said, "you also had people that were very fine people, on both sides."

Describing four women of color who are members of Congress and known as "The Squad," Trump said, “Why don’t they go back and help fix the totally broken and crime infested places from which they came.” All four are American citizens. Three were born in the U.S. The fourth came to the U.S. as a child.

Elijah Cummings is a black member of the House of Representatives from Baltimore, and he is chairman of the Oversight Committee. Trump described Cummings' Seventh District as a “disgusting, rat and rodent infested mess,” Trump added “no human being would want to live there.” Trump has engaged in a week long attack on Cummings, each tweet becoming more vile than the last.

“When Mexico sends its people, they’re not sending their best,” he said on the day he announced his Presidential campaign in 2015, saying some of those crossing the border were “rapists.”

One of Trump’s ugliest rants about immigrants took place in February in El Paso, where in an almost hypnotic fashion he brought up undocumented immigrants and said, “Murders, murders, murders. Killings, murders!” His fans responded by breaking out in “build the wall!” chants.

The manifesto the El Paso shooter left behind begins by describing his attack as “a response to the Hispanic invasion of Texas.”

I don't see the difference, to tell the truth. And surely a critical thinker should not just blindly rely on the definitions some other mortal, with his own set of prejudices, set down. I prefer to talk about how words are actually used by people, with the understanding that we find them being used in non-the-same way, or even in conflicting ways. There is a lot of intellectual dishonesty in politics, with people trying to pin labels on each other.

It's strange to find you, of all people, just relying on what Wikipedia, the Free Dictionary, and Collins say. Let's look at what they say about a subject dear to your heart, 'socialism'. Can it mean Stalinist oppression ... can that be one of the legitimate definitions of 'socialism'?

    Wiki:
    Free Dictionary:
    Collins:
According to every single one of those definitions, North Korea is a form of socialism. The Wiki 'definition' is the broadest, but the other two are pretty clear that at least one form of socialism is state ownership, full stop. So if you tell me, 'North Korea! That's not socialism!" I can just go to your authorities and say, well, they say it is, a form of socialism, just not your form.

So ... rather than just blindly trust to an authority, better to discuss how a word is actually used, wtth the understanding that it can be used in different, indeed
contradictory ways by different people at different times.

Otherwise, we become the prisoners of language.

    Clear now?

The difference is that in one case the source, being a capitalist source and defender of capitalism, presents a capitalist's definition of what conflicts with capitalism, but in the other case the capitalist orientation is of no consequence.

He responded to a white supremacist's mass shooting with an historical mass arrest and detainment of Hispanics! He went to El Paso in response to a legitimate need for community consolation and assurances and insulted and criticized city top officials!

Is he a racist or a dope?

    Got nothing? Seems so.

The problem is that anything you conjure up is not terrorism but an attack on racist fascists.

Afraid you lost me there. I think you're saying, when I like a dictionary definition, it's okay, and when I don't, it's not. That is, the 'dictionary' -- a human construct -- is not some sacred oracle. And I would agree with that.

Anyway, I see no difference between how i use the word 'white supremacy', and how the various dictionary authors use it.

Just explain why you post hate.

Nobody ever answers that question. I can't understand why so many people are attracted to hate. It doesn't have any constructive value. It only causes destruction.

The hate which the left spreads is destroying the country. This is obvious from the results. Thus it is known. Therefore it is intentional. You are contributing to the destruction of this country.

Are you "white"? If so, I'd be happy to denounce you as being a white supremacist, since you project such a supremacist view of yourself.

There is EVERYTHING wrong with white nationalism

If your only reason to feel good about yourself is that you happen to have been born a certain colour then it is time to get out and do something positive for the world
