This is an excellent example of how liberals/progressives/socialists view the world through the prism of their echo chambers. They believe virtually anyone who waves a U.S. flag is a racist extremest who hates minorities and should be mocked and ostracized.

This is why they are uncomfortable watching Hong Kong residents fight for liberty at the hands of a leftist government.

In many a leftist's world an American who loves his county, who flies a U.S. flag, who stands for the national anthem and who seeks liberty and individual freedom is no better than a klansman. Many leftists view what are actually normal Americans with the same distaste they view the KKK, as my friend Jake so aptly demonstrates.

This is why they constantly side with the American-hating leftwing nut job Colin Kaepernick, the extremest thugs of Black Lives Matter, American-hating Socialist Democratic congresswomen in the 'squad' and anyone else who finds the idea of 'America' repugnant.

Leftists often will also view gun owners in the same light; when one's worldview is limited by the bubble one lives in, it's easy to discard any sort of diverse thinking in favor of a limited view dictated by one's echo chamber...

Only if more than 5% believed the above, and it is probably not even half of that.

Hmm, immigrants who are educated and believe in individual freedom and liberty and who literally fought to gain this?

Or uneducated immigrants who are government-dependent and cost taxpayers money and are coveted by the Democratic Party simply because will vote Democrat?

Yeah, I don't have a problem with this. But I bet Democrats do...

Sorry, but history has shown us that a majority of leftists view with distain those who wave the American flag and stand for the national anthem.

And many liberals/progressives/socialists also equate those who display patriotism with racist white nationalists:

    https://slate.com/news-and-politics/2018/11/trump-nationalism-patriotism-difference.html

This is why normal Americans mostly detest leftists...

I hope I'm wrong, but I also see this as a pretext for them to invade Taiwan.

I got that far and realized you weren't going to able to support that comment, meaning your post is based on a false premise, so why go any further?

That's not true, we agreed long ago to a One China Policy. This is an internal issue and has nothing to do with us. We may wish them well as citizens, but our government has no dog in this fight and would do well to stay out of it. On the same token China has often shown as much respect to us in this regard...

Well they've always seen it as belonging to them, and they see their freedom of expression as a threat to the communist party.

They will probably suppose that what is happening in Hong Kong came about because they allowed Taiwan to exist, and Hong Kong wouldn't have rebelled if they had acted decisively to punish Taiwan.

China is pushing "unification", which is why we got Hong Kong protests. Taiwan has always been part of that goal.

The Residents of China have always lived under freedom. Now they are about to learn what it is like to live under the Communist boot.

This is what life would be like if the Left could gain control of our Freedom and Liberty in America.

So what would you say to those Hong Kong protesters waving the American flag? "Please don't think we're coming to your aid because we aren't?" And while you are correct, we agreed to a One China policy, China also agreed to respect the freedom and independence of the people of Hong Kong. If they are going to ignore that agreement, we may wish to revisit our agreement.

I don't think the two things are linked, in reality or in the Chinese mind. Taiwan was settled by Chinese nationalists in 1949 while Hong Kong was leased to the British in 1897 and returned in 1997. Those are two very different arrangements.

Yep, I agree with you, xwsmithx.

Hong Kong is one thing, while Taiwan being invaded by Red China could draw us into war. If it happens, the chance there is to severely damage the PLA airforce and navy, and keep the country land-locked for a very long time.

Point of order, point of order. China is no longer communist. It would be more accurate to describe it as a military dictatorship or an oligarchy or a one-party state. But its economic system is now a form of state capitalism. China abandoned communism after the fall of the Soviet Union, which is why it is now growing at 6% a year.

And I'm guessing you meant the residents of Hong Kong rather than China. China was living under the communist boot since 1949, and the military boot since 1992.

Really, in what year did the Soviet Union become stateless thus fulfilling the Marxist fantasy?

Never. Which is why Marxism is a fantasy. What Stalin did was the reality, the only way you can impose communism on millions of people is at the point of a gun and with the deaths of millions as a consequence. What Mao did was the reality. What Pol Pot did was the reality. What Castro did was the reality. What is happening in Venezuela today is the reality. Marxism, like every other left-wing utopian vision, turns into a dystopian hell on earth when it's tried in reality.

You say good luck, but that's about it. China is a sovereign nation, as such we must respect their authority to deal with their own internal matters. Do we really want Communist China interfering in our internal matters? Imagine them offering their hacking services to America's socialists and commies? Do you not see what sort of harm that road could lead to? This is a British problem, they are the ones that sold the Hong Kong people into commie slavery, guess I can't blame them for not flying Union Jacks...
