Conservatism would've had us still living under a British monarch, you know, the hallmark of small government, freedom, and liberty...It was liberals who revolted against that and gave us the government we have today.

Conservative students won't key a car if someone says Trump is a fascist. They’re different than libs.

Not doing that hasn't seemed to hurt Canada, NZ or Australia.

Conservatism is far closer to libertarian thought than liberalism.

Libertarianism an extreme laissez-faire political philosophy advocating only minimal state intervention in the lives of citizens.

The German electorate that brought Hitler to power was probably the most educated in the world at that time.

Reality, if you going to do engineering work, you need a degree.

    From your article

    SNIP
The shift was almost entirely due to growing skepticism among Americans without four-year degrees -- those who never enrolled in college, who took only some classes or who earned a two-year degree. Four years ago, that group used to split almost evenly on the question of whether college was worth the cost. Now, skeptics outnumber believers by a double-digit margin.
    ENDSNIP

Asking people who didn't get a 4-year degree the value of getting a 4-year degree seems a little counterproductive to me....

Conservatives are for small government. An we find an overbearing central government to be offensive. English rule over the colonies in the 18th century is a classic case of what conservatives detest.

Whereas liberals are ok with a strong, omnipotent, central government. Today’s liberals would have been tories in 1776.

    Student Loans Through Banks

Private student loans, also referred to as alternative student loans, are offered by banks and independent lending institutions to help cover any unmet financial need that remains after scholarships, grants, government loans and family college savings have been applied to a student’s tuition costs

I was a student of colleges and universities from 1979-1997 and to inform my kids I am also a counselor of such..

IMHO there are a lot of people in college who have no business being there. We need to get past the notion that everybody needs a college degree to succeed. There are lots of high paying trades jobs begging for people.

Because of the law, thereby making the feds the only place to get a student loan. Thank you .

Of course they can loan money to students, but that’s not the same as a student loan

Let me guess...if the govt offered to pay your loans you'd say no? That was a rhetorical question because we all know the answer ;)

Good post. There are also other reasons why college costs are increasing:
    1) Explosion in administration caused by the increased demand in student and academic services. Let's just look at one example: Numbers of students who need special accommodations, testing or otherwise, is exploding. Thus, the sprouting of testing centers that give students extra time and/or quiet exam rooms. All this needs infrastructure and personnel -- i.e. money.
    2) Dorms that look like hotel rooms with the latest amenities like state of the art work out facilities etc.

This is all part of the college experience. Obviously, colleges are pushing this, but they wouldn't if there wasn't demand for those services. Many students take the campus tours and look at shiny dorms, dining facilities, gyms, classrooms with the latest tech etc. All this makes the students sign, vs. another school that is barebones but has good academics. it's a supply and demand issue that drives up costs. Apparently, the demand is still strong, because students/parents do not mind to pay extra for all those services.
