Probably I do as working with cops I see the dark side way too often. Tasers fail, flexible baton rounds can miss, use an asp and it becomes unnecessary force, and pepper spray affects all involved. Try deciding which you will choose when you have one or two seconds to do so all while wearing an extra 25 pounds of gear.
Sorry for the rant but I highly doubt you have any clue what officers go through on a daily basis.

Too many examples over too many years of cops shooting innocent people?

True, the new rule is merely semantics, but it seems to acknowledge a problem.

If criminals are worried about being shot by a cop or being in prison, then they should stop committing crimes.

That's a crock of ****. Look at Michael Brown. Seven black witnesses came forward - along with a videotape of him - testifying that he was the aggressor and the police officer was in the right. But the left-wing America hating media won't tell you that. Hands up don't shoot bullshit.

Nothing will change so long as police unions and insurance lawyers are more involved in the training curriculum of our LE than We The People are. Cops are taught to 'shoot first' and verify a threat later, because the aforementioned groups have no financial interest in protecting anyone but their own employees. Get down to city hall and vote on training policy yourselves or deal with it.

Police will change their response to filling out the paperwork after the crime has happened and the scene is safe. They will leave the arrests to the detectives and fewer will be caught or stopped from striking again. It’s happening in Dallas now. The blm DA and police chief are not stopping or prosecuting food thefts under $750. People are running out of Walmart with grocery carts full of steaks and loading them into a waiting car without fear.

That doesn’t negate anything I posted...
I am fine with thugs and pos meeting their end. Innocent citizens dying from trigger happy cops however is a different story

If an officer is fearful of pulling out their weapon due to paperwork maybe they shouldn’t be pulling the weapon then?

In most countries even pulling out pepper spray opens an investigation.

I’ve dated two officers and know quite a few others, I have never said their job isn’t dangerous and unpredictable but we should always be striving to reduce unnecessary death.

I seriously doubt that is the reason for their opposition, rather, I suspect that they fear it will result in police convictions when they acted reasonably.

And the Democrats didn't even introduce a bill to prevent criminals from shooting cops.

In fact illegal alien cop killers and MS-13 are a protected class in California.

I know, and now shooting cops remains totally legal in California

They have a special gateway just for Illegals and MS-13 at the border. They used to issue them guns as they went through but MS-13 complained about the quality, saying they could just pluck Glocks from the very air in the United States.

What is troubling is the number of people shot by police that could have been prevented by better training or hiring practices. Any steps taken to reduce such shootings would be a plus for both the police and those who pay them for protection. I appreciate the fact that policemen are often put in dangerous situations and I respect their right to defend themselves and their duty to protect others. However I have seen many incidents where a policeman has killed someone when it could easily have been handled differently and saved a life.

Some might. In California though where cops make pretty good salaries, I expect that most cops will comply. Instead of putting their jobs in jeopardy when they see a crime in progress, they will just look the other way, much more often.

the new law states police can only shoot people when it's necessary, meaning only when the police or a civilian are in danger if they do not... oh my.... that is horrible

    https://www.businessinsider.com/california-governor-signs-law-to-limit-shootings-by-police-2019-8

"The new law will allow police to use deadly force only when "necessary" to defend against an imminent threat of death or serious injury to officers or bystanders."

Yup, Key and Peele figured out the correct police procedure a few years ago. Here is the new protocol:

Hilariously youtube has censored this particular clip from their channel. Surprised that Comedy Central left it up. Wokeness will get it eventually.

They’re not afraid of paperwork or doing their job. They just see no need to risk their lives if the DA is going to let them off anyway. The DA is trying to free up understaffed police for bigger emergencies, but they are inviting a crime wave. When private citizens start protecting their property, things will be a mess. Or small business owners will pack up and leave to set up shop elsewhere. Goodbye tax base and the city will suffer more.
