    agree.

Interesting side story, since my kid was raised in the 'everybody gets a trophy" generation. Youth soccer, a few years back, 8 teams in the division, my kids team sucked, they ended up 7th out of 8, and of course after the last game there was a big gathering and team photo's, trophy's all that jazz.

So of course 7th place gets a trophy, each kid goes up to collect theirs, mine leaves her's on the grass where we were sitting, so as we are about to leave my wife says "honey you forgot your trophy" and my daughter says "its a 7th place trophy, they can mow over it" < that was the day I was sure she was going to be all right and it was a spot on prediction.

I'm not miserable, my family's not miserable, my friends and coworkers are not miserable. Maybe you need to stop hanging out with angry liberals, the other side is getting along fine and not at each other's throats, we're actually patting each other on the back for a good days work at a good days wage.

Because they haven’t been stereotyped as inferior human beings for hundreds of years!

I taught in bed sty Brooklyn and I find you very logical but totally unpsychological! One cannot ignore racism oppression and stereotyping.
When one does not have hope it is very difficult to succeed. I’ve mentioned my husband many times. He was born into the worst poverty I have ever seen and put in foster care and dropped out of high school in the 10th grade because going to college was not in his realm of reality. He retired in his 40s as a vice president at Smith Barney. My husband would be the first want to tell you that had he not been a white male he would still be a clerk ..thank goodness, that’s changing

I am a teacher too and I hate the teachers union because I loved having 45 in a class. I loved having no preparation periods. I loved the low wages. I loved not having special ed classes etc. You’re obviously a younger teacher and you don’t realize what the union has done for you

    Yes, many positives.

But the protection of substandard teachers is an issue. Retirees are also a terrible Financial drain on municipalities and states, but not the teachers fault there. Some but not all cities had some serious issues with their previous generosity.

I think to some degree much of that has been addressed over the last decade because it was so widespread.

I read somewhere that the new teachers coming in today (some not all) don't have it half as good as far as Retirement and benefits that the previous generation enjoyed.

I will agree with one thing and that is I don’t think we should have tenure. But instead of tenure we should pay our teachers a lot more and this way we could fire the worst and attract the best. I Keynote to teachers and the past few years I have been asked to speak in June to motivate teachers to stay because the best and brightest are quitting. Part of the problem is the disrepair and the woman’s movement. When I grew up I had no choice but to be either a secretary a teacher or a nurse or get a husband. So the best and brightest women went into these professions. Now thanks to the woman’s movement women are opting for Better paying professions

Teachers are overrated. I learned most of what I needed to know from the textbooks.

Why is it people who put down teachers are usually not too smart?
Who taught you to read the text books? Who do you think wrote the textbooks? In my book I talk about parents who blame the teachers if their kids don’t do well and credit the kids genetics when they do!

hurting some kids because other kids aren't achieving, is just very sad.

we should work to bring kids UP...not bring other kids DOWN.

At the rate some folks are trying to rewrite history, you could probably make the argument that textbooks are overrated also ;)

As for the teachers, to be fair, they're probably at least part of the reason you can read a textbook in the first place.

But they probably aren't the ones who wrote the textbooks. Although they may be among those leading the charge to rewrite them.

Drifting off topic, but I wonder how education became such a left-leaning liberal-dominated profession in the first place. I suspect "those who can do and those who can't teach" played a role. But who knows.

Teaching was A female profession so therefore the quote t”hat those who can do, do and those who can’t ,teach” After all women weren’t exactly the most respected people and if men did those jobs they must be inferior. That is why some of the best and brightest aren’t going into teaching because of attitudes like you just expressed
I’ve been involved in revising textbooks. It’s so interesting how the original books like Dick and Jane were so sexist... The holocaust was rarely mentioned in many books. You ask why teaching became a liberal profession? Because liberals tend to care more about people and liberals tend to be more educated and what could fill that need and educating children . Teachers are the opposite of God. God gets all the credit and none of the blame and teachers get all the blame and none of the credit

    1. A half century ago teaching may have been a "female profession", but not anymore. Maybe you are in your 60's+?

    2. I suspect the "best and brightest" go into other fields because they can make more money. Again, if they CAN, they do. If they CAN'T, they teach.

    3. In my own personal experience, most of the elementary school teachers were women, most of the college professors were men, and the inbetween (middle school and high school) was more of a mixture of men and women. For whatever that observation is worth.

They literally rounded them up, and put them in camps.

And then dropped a nuclear bomb on them, and then another, for good measure.

The Civil War ended 150ish years ago. The Civil Rights movement was 50ish years ago. We elected a black president more than a decade ago.

At what point do you quit holding a grudge?

At what point do you accept responsibility for your successes and failure, instead of blaming race?

    Just curious.

The Nevertrumpers and Trumpers are "getting along fine"? Do you actually go to sites like Redstate, NationalReview, and Breitbart and read what they're saying about each other?

But more to the point, you don't see America becoming increasingly polarized? You don't hear the political rhetoric from both sides? People don't just disagree with each other anymore, they hate the other person. And seriously, you think a country that's NOT miserable is losing 70,000 people a year to drug over doses? 88,000 a year to alcohol? Do happy countries have high suicide rates?

    This society is terminally ill.

Why would I visit any of those sites?

Dangerous when I do visit those sites because I follow link somewhere they're just laughing at the left for being so angry.

And when I said we I meant me and my neighbors I have no idea what their political affiliation is.

Bottom line is 97% of America is getting along and doing just fine the 3% of running around screaming bloody murder and waving their arms and shouting at the sky.

I just ignore them. It's good advice!

The best-known self-taught lawyer is Abraham Lincoln, who borrowed books from a fellow state legislator and then practiced law in Illinois before becoming one of the nation’s most renowned presidents
    www.abajournal.com/news/article/abe_lincolns_route_to_law_practice_a_vanishing_option/

Abraham Lincoln was humbly born, self-taught and ambitious

(Srinivasa) Ramanujan was insanely good at math, and it wasn't due to any education, either -- he was entirely self-taught. His parents gave him a math textbook on advanced trigonometry around age 11. He decided to learn the hell out of that book, and then because advanced trigonometry was so piss easy, he derived his own sophisticated theorems all by himself.

About the only way those inner city kids get into a special program is if they are special needs.

I think there's more than just 3% who are freaking out. Someone like Trump doesn't happen in a vacuum. There have to be serious flaws in the system for someone like Trump to have a chance. And there are serious flaws.

This is outrageous, and so stupid! They don't need to close the schools for gifted children. They need to build more of them. This sucks so bad! Because some children don't have the intellect to master advanced subjects, the ones who can will now have their opportunity for a quality education stolen from them by the we're-all-the-same fanatics. They will be forced to sit in classrooms where education is drastically dumbed down so blacks and Hispanics don't feel bad about themselves.
When I was in school, no one worried about whether some kids couldn't keep up the rest when I was a kid. We were placed in advanced classes if we qualified and that was it. The result? Everything you see around you from electricity to cell phones to space technology.

I was looking at a few new technologies this morning: a bionic eye for people going blind from an eye disease; to bionic legs to help wheelchair bound patients walk again. I am sure I could find more of these technological breakthroughs if I had the time. Guess what? The innovators of these technologies are all white. I hope you choke on that fact too!

It should be obvious to everyone that the reason the countries these people came, or are coming from, are hell-holes is because the average IQ of these people is low making them incapable of building an advancing civilization. Not one of our modern technologies came from Africa or Guatemala, etc. These we're-all-the-same nutcases are going hasten the devolutionary direction we are in.

We're screwed thanks to the virtue-signaling whites who are always trying to make things equal when they will never be equal. But guess what? When we go down, these nutcases and their low-IQ favorites are going down right along with the rest of us.
