Any normal person would have contacted the bank to ask about it before running out to spend it.
If they are too stupid and greedy to do otherwise, then they deserve to be nabbed for theft.

If I found an extra $120K in my bank account, I would check with the bank before I spent any of it. It defies logic that they thought it was theirs. Now, a couple of hundred dollars could be an honest mistake.

 

Sorry, but I think this falls under "Don't believe everything you read on the internet.....and especially reddit". The guy would have had to invert the money for over a year to make 3% of interest. I see you later said he had it for a year and a half. I find it hard to believe someone would not have reported 200k not being in the account it was suppose to be for 1-1/2 years. Maybe, but not probable.

I can't see any possibility that after erroneously depositing 200k in your savings account that they can get the accrued interest back as well as the principal.

The question arises - what happens in jurisdictions with negative interest rates? Do you have to pay them back what the bank has taken?
