Nah, I'm just not interested in defending the SCOTUS from someone who hasn't even articulated arguments as to why they are wrong. EDIT: especially since it won't amount to a hill o' beans.
depends on your definition, as there are multiple https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Assault_weapon "Assault weapon is a term used in the United States to define some types of firearms. The definition varies among regulating jurisdictions but usually includes semi-automatic rifles with a detachable magazine, a pistol grip and sometimes other features such as a vertical forward grip, flash suppressor or barrel shroud."
perfectly legal, but if one somehow becomes suspicious, the cops may harass one to learn more about you and find out if you are a risk or not - best to fly under the radar if later on this guy is released and turns out to be a mass murderer, people will ask why more was not done, now they can say... we tried
There is no such thing as an "Assault Weapon". That is a term made up by the gun grabbers in the 80's to label any gun they do not like. An "Assault Rifle" is a full-automatic rifle. An AR-15 is not an "Assault Rifle". It is a center-fired semi-automatic magazine fed rifle which is no different than the Ruger mini-14 ranch rifle.
So, a definition created by ignorant people and define on a website that is edited by these same ignorant people is now a "valid source" of proving the original ignorant definition?
you can ignore definitions you don't like and call them names like "ignorant", but the fact is.. you are the one ignoring the other definitions that are common knowledge and in common use
So, you want a police state where everyone is a potential suspect and the police should be allowed to harass people just because?
what was he doing that made the police take notice to his stash of weapons... if someone looks suspicious and looks like they may be a mass murderer, I say check it out... yes would you prefer the police go, that guy looks suspicious, has many weapons, but hey, let's not check it out
There is no such thing as an "Assault Weapon" no matter how many anti-gunners try to conjure up a definition to fit their agenda.
You can create definitions in order to misrepresent things and to make things sound scary to the ignorant masses, but the fact is....you are ignoring that words do have meaning and creating FAKE definitions does not change those meanings. Only the truly ignorant or politically motivated use the definition in question. You can call an apple a banana all you like, but it is still an apple.
I am not an anti-gunner, I support the right for all Americans to own guns to protect their homes and families, even ex-felons, I just know some definitions of "Assault Weapon" does include AR-15's in fact, I support the right of every American to conceal their gun without a permit to do so, as I think it's the polite way to carry a gun in pubic what I am for is for assault weapons like the ar-15 to be as hard to buy as a machine gun
Exactly. There is something to be said about the gray man approach to life. Driving a car that stands out, clothing that conveys a message, noticeable tattoos, etc. are generally things to be avoided. If exceeding the speed limit, I like to have cars in front of me and also behind also exceeding the speed limit. And of course registration, inspection stickers, etc. should be always up-to-date.
You have the right to firearms. You also have the responsibility to abide with the laws in regards to firearms. This guy isn't going to get a 28 year sentence. In fact he will not get jail time, a fine and that will be about it.
You're the one ignoring that many words often have more than one meaning.. this is one of them it's like arguing someone is not hot, when someone says someone is "hot", saying that they are only about 98.6 degrees as if that was the only definition of "hot" https://www.merriam-webster.com/dictionary/assault weapon " Definition of assault weapon : any of various automatic or semiautomatic firearms especially : assault rifle "
there ya go, that was why he was stopped, and why he was susspicious, then how did the conversation go, was the man rude, what happened to escalate this, or was the cop just being a dick, who knows like I said, they will investigate him, and if nothing to be found he will go free I think there is more to this story then we are hearing
sure there is, you just don't know what one is https://www.merriam-webster.com/dictionary/assault weapon " Definition of assault weapon : any of various automatic or semiautomatic firearms especially : assault rifle "
Rude? Didn't you read the fricking article? The officer observed “in plain view ammunition and a green rifle case in the passenger seat" Yeah, that's right. The guy just had ammunition and a rifle case in the passenger seat!!!!
An automatic rifle is not an "Assault Weapon". Various???? LMFAO! So, as I stated before. An "Assault Weapon" is a made up term by the gun grabbers in the 80's to LABEL any gun they do not like. Oh! BTW. There is a definition of Grey Aliens even though they do not exist... https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Grey_alien
The guy already had a permit, I guess it expired or became invalid when changed addresses?? As long is stays within that area, he should be ok, of course he will pay through the nose with a lawyer, and they will drag the case out, to try and financially bleed him out to plea.
New Jersey is not like any other state when it comes to guns. It doesn't matter if it is an AR or a genuine Antique (pre-Curio & Relic) firearm. If you do not have an NJ Gun ID card which are not easy to get, and you break one of their very restrictive gun regulations, what would be considered a minor infraction in almost every other state with the possible exception of HI, you will most likely do some time. It is not at all unusual for PA residents to be arrested in NJ. Sometimes they don't even realize they have entered the state. NJ State Troopers look for out of state plates and will try their best to find a reason to stop you. If you lie to them like this guy did, they will throw the book at you. Just having a gun in your glove box without a permit can get you 5 years in NJ. NJ also has "voluntarily" gun registration for any gun sold in NJ. They can't force you to register but they can make it double difficult for you if you don't. NJ cases have been upheld by the highest courts. It is a states right issue. Stay the Hell out of NJ if you don't have an NJ gun ID, Period.
