How Close Are We to Recreating Classic Television Series Using Computers and other technology?

    How difficult will it be in the near future to create new episodes of classic or much loved television series by using computer technology and clips from old episodes?

    Like Bonanza (14 years to draw on). Or original Star Trek. Gilligan's Island or for that matter The Big Bang Theory.

    It'd probably be technically possible already. The problem is that it'd take a lot of time and money to do well so it's probably not worth doing.

    Yeah the expense would probably be the biggest obstacle.

    That and getting the rights to the images.

    That is a fascinating suggestion and one that is certainly soon to be true. I'd never heard the idea suggested but I'm sure others are working on it already.

    Hell, you will probably be able to write your own plot and then stream an episode using that. I saw where computer analysis of such things was in the works long ago.

    This leads to the idea that the public can compete for money for popular new episodes they write, in much the way that you can make money on YouTube.
