Diversity is our weakness

human beings naturally seek out reasons to seperate themselves into smaller, tighter groups. its a survival mechanism.

race, or ethnicity, or religion, or politics.

its a natural instinct.

suggesting that society would be utopia if not for racial/ethnic diversity, is ignorant bigotry. and its false.

I was born here, my great-grandparents were born here. That means I'm native. So never.

 

It's not about race or ethnicity or any thing like that.. it's about a shared Western Culture. The biggest problem with our culture is that we have tolerated the intolerant.

 

Hey, you were supposed to show me examples of successful diverse societies.

 

I can't think of one, not today or any other time in history.

 

I think the first thing the left should do is define diversity,point out areas where we are not diverse and then explain how diversity would improve things. Diversity would mean conservatives get a voice on college campuses.

 

Nobody is suggesting it would be a utopia. That is a strawman. The only claim is that it would be a more cohesive society if it were less diverse. That is shown by social scientists.

I think a more cohesive society is a better society so I prefer a less diverse society.

That is logic.

 

Tricky...in a democracy, there are very few examples, although ethnic and racial diversity seems to work just fine in an empire or some sort of authoritarian dictatorship where a central government can impose their norms on a diverse population. You notice that as the US becomes more diverse, we require more rules to regulate group interaction. When we were less diverse, we could have few rules...

But I'll nominate my best candidate for diversity as...Switzerland. They managed to run a nation of multiple cultures, ethnicities, and languages together for centuries in more or less some sort of harmony. I think their record is unmatched in world history.

You are expected to back up your positions when challenged to do so. At least that is what people who are having a discussion are expected to do.

What is nonsense is claiming that I said what you said. I didn't suggest anything about a utopia. All I said was that society would be more peaceful without racial diversity. If you can't see the obvious then I can't help you with that.

Humans naturally separate themselves into groups of people who share common characteristics. No doubt about that. I didn't say that, you did but it is certainly correct. The failure of people to integrate with others with different characteristics highlights what I have been saying.

 

And that says that diversity would work better if people weren't biased. But they are.

 

I would have little more to say to you than this:

 

America has always been diverse.. European immigrants of every stripe and every religion.. Irish, Italian, German, Spaniard, Greek.. Jews, Catholics, Quakers, Dutch Reform... Black slavery and imported Chinese labor... Native American Indians and Hispanics.

I am Dutch and Irish.. My family has been here since they were building the first houses in New Amsterdam.

Other ancestors came with the Palatine immigration to Saxe Gotha.. German and Swiss settlers.

 

So you claim being a country of a majority of white Europeans is diverse? Whatever.....

 

Sure but to be a liberal you have to pretend not to know this.

 

You mean like when Hamilton and Burr went st it cause they got along so well cause they were both white? Or when the white British and white American colonists had a hug fest and killed each other by accident in 1776 and 1812? Or when the white government split apart in 1860 and they killed 600,000 of their white brothers in one of the bloodiest civil wars ever?

Of course its diverse.. In the early years Italians, Greeks, Spaniards and Jews weren't considered white people and the Irish faced horrible discrimination. Have you never studied any US history?

And there were still serious issues and wars. Hell, we had white Europeans from Britain going at white Europeans from Britain in two wars of Independence - joined by fighters from white France.
