You had ethnic immigrant neighborhoods in America but most immigrants assimilated and moved on into the interior of America after one generation and a new ethnic group would move in that neighborhood and again move on after one generation.

Look at East L.A., it was an Italian immigrant neighborhood for a generation or two then Polish immigrants, Eastern Jewish immigrants, Japanese immigrants then Mexican immigrants. But being indoctrinated in the La Raza movement the Mexicans never moved on and stayed and and East L.A. has been a barrio ever since, self apartheid.

 

Diversity is only a problem for the GOP.

 

Yes I believe diversity works fine when there is affluence and plenty of resources, the problems start with increased competition and scarcity of resources. So if you like your multicultural society make sure you don't run out of money or things will go bad very quickly.

 

Fair point. But immigrants have always sort of been ghettoized, right? It happened to the Irish and Germans in turn.

Couple that with failed war on drugs policy in Latin America that have created huge profits for criminal cartels, and it is understandable that marginalized immigrants from there would stuggle to escape a culture of crime and violence.

That being said, I think given a chance assimilation is happening at it's own speed and policies of inclusion make it easier to acheive prosperity.

 

There isn’t a single job that an illegal does that couldn’t be accomplished by a citizen. And why haven’t Hispanics been able to make any of their own countries prosperous? How many generations have passed while Latin American countries have gone mostly nowhere? 3rd world to barely 1st world. Why do they need generations to prosper here when they couldn’t do it in their home countries?

What makes our country so special? You know the answer.
