I suppose if that electric storage were the same battery in your electric car, it might make this scheme much more economical, but then again consumers wouldn't have the convenience of being able to charge their car any time they choose.

But when we're talking about using a battery to charge another battery, that just gets absurdly impractical.

that isn't free. First you have to buy the potato then you have to buy two dissimilar metals with a large enough difference in potential to create a cathodic reaction. In the amount of energy you get from it might be enough to power a digital clock.

Further is the response happens the electrical output drops and there anode corrodes. So you will have to replace the anode on a regular interval and the cathode plates out and you will have to replace that on a regular basis.

A double A battery would probably be cheaper, and produce more energy.

so I stand by my position.

That won't be free. The first you will not only have to install a paddle wheel you will probably have to have it connected to a transmission that will gear up the mechanical force to turn an alternator. Already I imagine this will be about $50,000.

And let's not forget maintenance. Alternators aren't a perpetual motion device.

Not when you are facing one and the interstate is backup for miles and miles and miles and you need to get out. And as noted the people in California suddenly can't charge their cars.

If you can't get out of trouble with a 375 mile range, you deserve to die.

Said like someone who lives in a city.

This is totally not going to be viable for folks living in the country.

Don't buy an electric car if that is your means to evacuate. And it seems you believe all the people in New Orleans after Katrina should have just died.......amazing.

Do they have power outages? Do they have fires? Does not having hurricanes in Montana somehow negate the fact we do along our Southern and Eastern seaboards, Hawaii, the Virgin Islanda, Puerto Rico (how would your electric car have done after that hurricane?)

No, but it gets mighty chilly, and anyone familiar with Batteries and cold knows that a charge, heaters and mileage will suffer greatly from it :)

The problem with batteries id inefficiency and most of consistency. Manufactures claim total miles per charge, but that sitting in a 105 degree sardine can and not using AC or taking a ice scraper to the inside of your windshield every few minutes and not run a heater so you can save the charge :)

Combustion like it or not can't be beat! No calculating headlight, motor, running lights, stereo, heater, AC, temperature, hills, recharge TIME, recharge locations, might as well ride a horse!

Can be and depending on a electric vehicle would certainly complicate it ;)

Short range? If I remember right horse drawn Wagon blazed a trail coast to coast. Then they were still instrumental in caring soldiers in conflict abroad and in this country. In fact they are still instrumental even today with herders and cattlemen, hunters, and tourist and their guides :)

All silliness aside battery powered cars are nothing more then a novelty "ATM" will that change, I suspect! But their will always be a need for old technology transportation!

Why would I limit my range with a more expensive less effective vehicle? I can get a decent gas powered car for $3,000, and it's range is unlimited

Well playing devils advocate here, but Locomotives are electric drive.. But unfortunately they burn around 150ish gallons of fossil fuel an hour. Older models use close to 200 GPH!

    But hey they're electric!

I agree power wheels are toys. I just grew out of them.

A vehicle for me is more about transportation.

    Oh God Ron, really

I don't know about other enthusiest, but the sound of combustion engines is 80% of the experience for me :) And yes I picked a winter picture because unlike the model you posted this one can actually heat itself, defrost the windows while powering 100 watt speakers, stereo, GPS, seat heaters, outside mirror defrosters and rear seat entertainment system and still achieve the same performance and mileage!

Yayyy its fun for a boy and a Girl LMFAO :)
Nine and half hours to fill the tank, ya Ron that some fun son! It would take me TWENTY SEVEN hour plus the twelve I need to drive to get there in your fun car..

Well they are hauling tens of thousands of tons. Consider a standard road vehicle they will ever Hall 40 tons in vehicles that get offended that weight class 8 miles to the gallon diesel, two or three miles to the gallon gasoline.

It's more efficient. That's why mine equipment works that way too.
