Afghanistan–China relations or Sino–Afghan relations have been mostly friendly throughout history, with trade relations between these regions date back to at least the Han dynasty with the profitable Silk Road.

Putin has been an Assad ally since he started selling his oil and gas in Europe. Assad is essential to keep the Saudi's from competing for that business.

Syria's oil production peaked in 1995 and has been in steep decline ever since. They have very little oil and its a very poor quality.

There might have been a few Euro mercenaries among the Crew but their job was primarily to extract Tribute from the governments of the various merchants traversing the area for Tripoli. I agree strongly with your first 5 sentences, but to keep "ally" in perspective, an ally does not attack your ships and kill your sailors as Israel did in June 1967 with the USS Liberty.

The reality is that our actions in Syria during these last years have been rather a gift to Israel.

 

Assad's value to Putin is that he has blocked the Saudi's from running a pipeline to compete with Russia in Europe. I never said anything about Syrian oil.

The Saudis have NO intention of ever running any pipeline across Syria. They had TAPLINE to Sidon in 1950 and it was subject to sabotage and finally shut down after the Yom Kippur war.

KSA has had the East West pipeline from Jubail to Yanbu and access to SUMED for more than 20 years. Don't GUESS when you don't know.

Syria has had many, many military coups and assassinations since 1947 as well as a long history of sectarian strife.
