It is not logical and it is depleting US power and wealth to do so yet those in power want it as such...

So any act by a previous admin is to be disregarded as irrelevant and whataboutism? You really want to go with that?

Gold fish are like that too. They don't have the brain power to remember things either.

I do blame my dad for what he DID to me, just like I blame the one who created the Lybian and Syrian mess that the current pres has to deal with today.

Trump had zero problems proclaiming his desire to fight in the area before Turkey slammed him a new one..

Well Israel can start acting like it wants peace and not as an occupying army. And tell me how Putin dominates the mideast? With us acting as an omnipotent force in the world telling other people how to live does not do us any good. The mideast would have been better or for the US if we did not overthrow Mosaddegh, Saddam and Qaddafi, Why did we get involved with Syria anyway. There was s secular power in Assad who was brutal towards Al-quada and ISIS, now to my thinking the enemy of my enemy is my friend.
But Clinton/Obama were not happy enough that they turned Libya into a quagmire they decided they were on a roll and lets syria have a go too. We are now selling arms to SA and they are in turn giving them to Al-queda in Syria! WTF.

To combat ignorance what is needed is not military personnel but teachers.

    I couldn't agree more!

What I'm saying is that if anybody thinks defending Israel is worthwhile, this does exactly the contrary.

Putin dominates by aligning with the dictators. We did need to get involved to try to stop ethnic cleansing. But we went about it the wrong way. The stupid way. Instead of working with our allies, Obama got caught in the "red line" narrative, and felt he had to ... prove something, I guess... Asinine! I completely agree with the rest of your post.

no, Assad as a secular dictator kept the various fractions under control. By brutal means, but he kept them weak. he gave the kurds somewhat limited autonomy to keep them in line. When civil war broke out we took advantage and used the kurds as mercenaries.
But Assad kept the Christians safe, something the kurds, alqueada or ISIS certainly would not.

I doubt either one would do it. But if they would I would salute them and wish them luck.

Syria has a long history of military coups, assassinations and citizen slaughter... back to 1947.

I don't see much worth in praising a brutal dictator just because he brutalized people of one religion instead of the other.

Yeah....but it is important to point out how he screwed up the Kurds royally and all of you were quiet. As quiet as a mouse. I just love exposing dems/libs hypocrisy and double standards.

You're right about the troops. But you're forgetting the cost of the bases themselves. Maintenance, transportation of supplies, housing, etc etc aren't all that cheap.

Not saying the person you responded to is right or wrong. Just making a point is all.
