The Free Syrian Army militias supported by Turkey and US were completely infused with Saudi backed extremists like al Nusra. This is not in despite nor was the ultimate goal of regime change. If you are truly unaware of this then it is you you don't understand the history.

 

The USA has only ever had "friends" when the "foreign aid" money is flowing freely and stupidly.
