Her DNA test confirmed that she is at least 1/64 Native American as she claimed to be. People from Oklahoma have more Native American ancestry than any other states, whether full-blooded Native Americans like it or not. Warren went to Stanford University’s Bustamante Lab. The lab’s Principal Investigator, Carlos Bustamante, PhD., wrote up her results, which can be summarized as follows. The analysis identified 5 genetic segments as Native American in origin at high confidence, defined at the 99% posterior probability value. The report’s executive summary states, “We find strong evidence that a DNA sample of primarily European descent also contains Native American ancestry from an ancestor in the sample’s pedigree 6-10 generations ago. We find little or no evidence of African ancestry in this sample.”

You might consider sending Harry Reid a thank you card for eliminating the filibuster on judicial nominees. Which is completely pathetic. I have much more indigenous blood than she does and I've yet to use it for personal gain. I probably never will. My kids are adamant that they never will because "that would be stealing the resources from those who've done it harder than we have". And let me say that they're all eligible for automatic or easier entry to universities and jobs - but they refuse to do it. They're earned their way in like everyone else.

Good for you and your kids. Likewise I'm sure there were/are programs, grants, etc I could have taken advantage of as a female business owner, but I never have and never will. I figure if I can't succeed on my own merits, I don't deserve success.

I think programs/grants/etc that target race or sex are actually racist and sexist. Living in Florida (home of Kennedy Space Center) there's been a lot of talk on the news this week about the first "all female" space crew, and my first thought is always "if women are equal, why is it so special that they're all women?" We're either equal or we're not.

 

And that's another thing .. many people don't like to feel like they didn't earn their position. It's demeaning, to some.

Also, I agree that anything like AA does far more harm than good, in terms of employment and the like. No sane employer will pick the person who may not have what it takes, over the person who proved they have. I do believe we need 'identified' jobs though .. it's not appropriate for a non-indigenous person to be in any sort of advisory position dealing in indigenous issues. But it should always be an indigenous person who has lived an indigenous life, and be more than freaking 1/64th.

 

You are 100% correct. It is the intolerant and violent that win.... EVERY SINGLE TIME. Conservatives need to realize that and up their game.

 

Let me translate his remarks. People of color oppressing people of color is OK. White people oppressing people of color is bad.

 

Along with this landmark legislation, the DC council also just approved a tax on sugary drinks. thus saving black people from diabetes. These DC legislators are doing great things.
