Whatever...he has to follow the Constitution and that demands a trial by the Senate, upon being presented with a bill of impeachment by the House, which is the equivalent of an indictment.

I doubt it will be ready for trial by Christmas...but who knows? The Committees have to report their findings to the House Judiciary Committee; a bill of impeachment has to be drawn up; it has to be passed out of committee; debated on the floor of the House and then voted upon. I expect the Senate trial to go a couple of weeks, depending on the presentation of the bill and the rebuttal by the Trump people, unless you think they'll move to a vote without a defense?

1. Constitutionally the Houses are separate and have no authority over each other.

2. At this stage there is only an inquiry and no Bill of Impeachment

3 Again, Constitutionally, the Senate's involvement only begins when presented with a Bill of Impeachment.

4. Trying to stop the impeachment is not to McConnell's advantage. The quicker the impeachment the quicker he can torpedo it.

 

How do justify an impeachment during an election year, rather than leaving it to the US Electorate?
