But Presidential candidates releasing tax returns to prove they are not thieving scum and pay their fair share has been a thing for a very long time. By first saying he would do it when no longer under audit (which is nonsense, an audit has nothing to do with it) and then by backtracking and lying about what he said Trump has amplified the demand for his taxes all by himself. His big fat mouth is his own worst enemy. We now know a number of solid facts. Trump abused his charity financially, likely criminally. Trump lied about his wealth for many years, as around $450 million was illegally diverted to his personal use from his father's fortune via a shell company, evading tax laws. He's told massive lies and he will not shut up. The "obsession" is entirely with Trump. He cannot stop making a big personal "Boo Hoo they are picking on me" out of every thing he can think of. Of course investigators are digging, Trump's strange behavior and document transgressions made certain they would. They are looking for what the hell is he so worried about that he will not shut up already?

It is a political statement not a criminal one.There is absolutely zero within the Constitution or Federal statutes that applies any such standard to a political practice like this. Releasing tax returns is normal political behavior that is expected by Americans with only a small minority saying otherwise. For Trump to promise it and then fail to pay up, then build lies around it and be unable to stop himself acting defensively about it, well it is very obvious he is concealing something very political. If the New York prosecutors manage to reveal his tax returns in the course of their investigation, well more power to them.
