I think everyone is quite confident that Trump survives a removal proceeding in the Senate given the need to flip 20 Senators. But what if that vote is taken in secret?

The Senate can set its own rules and it would take a simple majority to set the rules such that the impeachment vote is private. And for those who would like to rail against the notion of casting votes in Secret, note that the Senate plays a role in impeachment that is akin to a jury and juries often cast their votes in Secret.

So if not for the wrath of the voters, this might happen? If it ever got serious you'd have hundreds of thousands of Trump supporters not keen on being disenfranchised surrounding the Capitol building.

Trump is not going to be removed from office and Trump will easily win re-election.

Oh like the majority of Americans that didn't vote for him?

    Strange how that works...

Guess what, we care just as much about disenfranchisement of the red hats has they do about the disenfranchisement of everyone else...
How much do you think that is?

Yes, let's not hold those accountable that voted based on their emotions rather than facts presented. That's the ticket.

Nice dream, but I don't see that happening.... Mitch knows he has to organize some sort of trial, but he doesn't have to make it easy...

You WISH you had those kind of guts, you don't though. Name a single instance of a right wing rebellion that wasn't propped up by another regime....

I won't wait, cuz there isn't one. Right wingers think they are barave and revolutionary, but revolt always comes from the left.

I'm assuming that by "red hat" you mean Trump supporters? Well...I support Trump. And I don't want ANYONE disenfranchised regardless of political ideology or anything else that one can think up.

All of these votes should happen by secret ballot but even with that I don’t think enough Republicans would vote to convict. First it would put a permanent mark on their party (we have never removed a sitting president) and two trump at least has a chance to win in 2020, a Pence presidency would not.

I know many Republicans that have grown disillusioned with him, even some congress critters have said they want him gone, but the truth is they have sold their soul to hitch themselves to this train — they wont get off until it runs off the rails.

So you believe believe gerrymandering should be eliminated and the house restored to its constitutional levels?

Hundreds of Thousands of women surrounded the Capitol building the day after Trump was elected to express their dissatisfaction. More than those who showed up for Trump's inauguration, so I'll take my chances.

But think about it, you are confident that Trump won't be removed currently given the potential political backlash against Senators, right? What happens to that confidence if you were told that the vote would be taken in secret?

The argument goes that permitting the vote in secret would allow Senators to make a decision based purely on the facts rather than the emotions associated with worrying about the potential political backlash.

    Great!
Both items are a complete subversion of the basic principles of democracy.

There was bound to be a few of you, you are in the extreme minority in your party however.

Yes, I know that's the argument. Reality however doesn't always follow the arguments does it? And can you really deny that there would not be those that wouldn't vote based on their emotions? That wouldn't vote to remove Trump simply due to their hatred of him?

No, I'm really not. I live in a Republican strong hold state and town that supports Trump. Everyone that I have ever talked to agrees with me when it comes to eliminating gerrymandering and restoring Congress and the Executive branch back to its original levels. What many disagree on is the HOW to go about it and WHAT those levels were.

When seems to be a bigger issue imo, neither party wants it to happen while they are in control only when the other “team” has it.

Let's have a nice loooooong trial. Maybe 3-4 months. 5 days a week. 6 hours a day. Let's air all of the dirty laundry. The Republicans will make sure of that.
That means 5 D senator candidates will be off the trail. I'm sure they'll buy into that in a heart beat.

    Just do it. :roflol:

I honestly can't wait for the mass liberal melt down once Trump get's reelected. It will be epic. Four more years of fake outrage, made up witch hunts, and the lefts never failing hope of impeachment to look forward to.

Votes are a matter of public record and public officials should be held accountable for those votes. How far do you TDSers want to go to bastardize our government and it's proceedures just because you are still mad he won?

A impeachment vote is never going to make it to the house floor let alone be sent over the the Senate. Because of that, Pelosi, Schiff, Nadiler, the MSM and others can write the narrative as they see fit. Biden and Waren can't be trump, nor he is going to be impeached let alone removed from office. Any one with a brain can see that. So they need to keep the issue going and plant the idea that he is guilty and this and that so that Biden or Warren can get in.

And Bill Clinton won with 43% of the vote. So what?

Your side tried to disenfranchise 63,000,000 in the Deep State coup attempt that's about to be blown open.
