what do you think is the bottom line here?
You seem to be making the point that the Iranian regime is bad news; that it does not reflect the will of the people; that they will successfully suppress dissent.... perhaps until dissent reaches an unsurpassable level

Is this situation something that should interest us? And in what way is the situation in Iran different than North Korea in terms of its significance for this country ?

The ones who demonstrate are not necessary pro american or pro west.

I have news for you. You have a religious anti american government in Iran now. It would at best be replaced by a hyper nationalist anti american government.

The iranians i know are atheist, nationalists and fiercly anti american.

Iran will always dominate the persian gulf and entire region, no matter what government, religion or status at all.

Its culture is millenia old. It predates anything in the region. They form a cultural, monolithic block, similar to China. They are organized, educated and have the highest population.

You have two options at hand.

    1. A friendly relationship with the regional power Iran
    2. hostile relations with the regional power Iran.

I don’t hope for pro-US government in Iran. I hope for the reasonable one.
And judging from your views that you voiced here, I wouldn’t rely on your circle of friends to be an indicator of general attitudes. You are on the extreme end.

I know an Iranian so I can make baseless predictions as if I knew what was going on. Iran may be an old culture, but the majority of the population is young. These minor skirmishes are getting bigger as these people are growing tired of living in the past. I know an Iranian, so you can't question my position on this.

You do realize that young iranians tend to be rather atheist but hyper nationalistic? You can twist it as you want. The american dream to have a muppet Iran wont become true.

Most likely relations will turn even worse.

What on my views is "extreme end"? The view that German interests should be priority? The idea that other nationals see their nation as Nr. 1 priority must shock you.

I know an Iranian, so I know everything. What Iranians really want is more global interference!

Please, I am no trump supporter by any means, but he has about 5% of the blame pie. BUSH/Bush/Cheney have around 50%, Obama/Clinton/Kerry have about 30% and Eisehower/Dulles the remaining. Reagan and Carter were the last two presidents who tried to get anything done peace wise there.

Sanctions never worked. In not a single case in world history.

Sanctions against Russia so it let go Crimea? lol

Sanctions against Syria so Assad steps down? lol

Sanctions against North Korea so it stops its Nuclear program? trolololo

Sanctions did not work whe USA still had the power to do something and they wont work now when USA global influence has shrinked to its current state.

I visited Germany. I visited cities from Hamburg to Munich. I'm not an expert about Germany either. I have lived in Cuba, Italy, Mexico and South Korea as well as the U.S. I can claim some expertise about those countries.

Having visited a place at least gives you an edge about the morons who believe if the Mullahs fall, they will be replaced by an "USA USA USA **** YEAH! iranian government.

The reality is, that it would be a hyper nationalist government, anti american to the core but atheist and connected more to Iranian nationalism.

Its not an opinion, its a fact. USA interests in the region are contrary to Irans interests. And interests dont depend in regime. Iran is a regional power. USA could only work with a submissive Iran like in Shah era. But that will be impossible now.
