An unscientific poll (often the best kind) to see what posters in this Forum find really annoying about commercials on TV.

You can change your vote, and you can select up to three different kinds of commercials, since it would be almost impossible to select only ONE. But, you must vote in order to see the accumulated results....

For me it was easy to find three most-hated types of commercials to vote for -- the ambulance-chasing lawyers, the gold and silver coin shills, and, all those endless promos that are especially irksome during televised sporting events -- after you've nearly been drowned in all the regular commercials for products and services!

The Joe Namath type of commercial where they try and convince older people they're not getting all the Medicare coverage they're entitled to. I consider him and people like him that try and con people by out and out lying to them to be nothing more than prostitutes.

This kind of hits home for me. I know a guy who got in a car wreck that was not his fault. The insurance company tried to settle out of court for 100K. The guy decided to hire a lawyer (there were several soliciting his business) and go to court. When it was all settled, the court ordered the insurance company to pay 100K; of which the lawyer got 35K.

I'm a retired insurance claims rep. I would need more fingers and toes than I have to tell you the times I've settled liability injury claims with lawyers for less money than the amount I had offered before the claimant retained an attorney. Most certainly not all adjusters are the same. I always figured the best file I could have was a closed file and that was fairly easy to do if I was fair in evaluating a persons claim.

You're right -- and, on top of that, the fellow you know had to pay TAXES on that court-ordered award!

The thing about the lawyer commercials is not even so much the content (which is often disgusting and pandering), but the sheer NUMBERS of these damned commercials every single, stinking day is STAGGERING! In every local broadcast I see regularly in the Denver-Boulder-Colorado Springs area, there are at least three or more of these 'messages' in every single commercial-break!

It's always a parade of all these people standing up there boasting about how good old "Attorney X got me" hundreds of thousands, or MILLIONS of dollars! "Oh, and it was SO EASY! -- All I had to do was call anytime, 24-hours a day!" You really get sick to death seeing and listening to this nauseating crap well over a hundred times a day (count them sometime). Thank heaven at least for the MUTE button....

When the guy comes on the radio at the end of commercials who talks faster than an auctioneer I turn the radio off, no matter how good the show content is.

The gold and silver sales shills also irritate the hell out of me --a LOT.

They always come on with all this bullshit about how the national debt is destroying the economy and they try to make you think that everything is going to crash before SUNSET TODAY! Oh, but you can save yourself with gold and silver coins! NONSENSE!

Truth? Our wonderous central bank, the Federal Reserve does everything it can to encourage even more debt of every kind by crushing interest rates back toward zero, repeatedly! And, the Fed controls not only interest rates but the MONEY SUPPLY, too. Thus, it really controls everything of any importance in the entire economy -- including commodities. And, yes, gold and silver are really nothing more than 'commodities', like anything else.

Besides, if there were some big economic 'catastrophe', and you had some big hoard of gold coins, the government would simply make it illegal to posses them and it would confiscate your gold for pennies-on-the-dollar. The government did exactly this during the Great Depression!

    Über-Liberal Democrat demi-god, Frankie Roosevelt did it in 1933: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Executive_Order_6102 . :democrat:

I used to like the Budweiser beer commercials on TV, and I'd stop whatever I was doing just to watch them (Spuds, the Draft Horses, etc.). Today I have difficulty even imagining what the appeal of most of the commercials is even supposed to BE. Many of them don't even give you a clue what the hell they're supposed to be advocating until the last second of the spot -- if even then.... An enormous waste of advertising dollars if nothing else....

I love the Farmers insurance spots -- these are usually better than the content they prop up.

And I used to love OJ's car rental spots, but that's long gone forever.

It seems these days no matter what product you are advertising you have to include the following
    1. White chick
    2. Black guy with white chick or white guy with a black chick.
    3. Asian, male or female but Asian.
    4. Gay dude and his husband and often toss in an adopted kid or two.
Even if you are advertising foot powder to a Lexus, better check all the boxes first.
Basically all commercials suck, just give us 5 seconds of your product on the screen, we don't need to hear about how awesome it is, just tell us when it is on sale, what more do we need?

And if we did have an economic catastrophe, and our money became worthless, gold wouldn't help you. If you had water, fuel, food, guns and ammo, you'd be a lot better off than someone who didn't have those things but who had a pile of gold coins.

I voted for pharmaceuticals. Physicians should recommend medications to patients, not commercials on TV.

I could also do without commercials for "male enhancement" and erectile dysfunction.

I like commercials that make me laugh, like the "Mayhem" guy for Allstate. And this one for Liberty Mutual ...

    And, of course ...

    Some drug commercials bug me.

Lately, their disclaimers say: "don't take this drug if you're allergic to this drug".

    Are they kidding?
