What question, just pointing out the welfare level will always have to rise along with the minimum wage, because they are making minimum wage How the heck can one survive on the national minimum wage if its $3.25 an hour or $50 bucks an hour?
Why do you assert they are the only ones? Yes it is, they are there to upsell customers and push certain foods and make them enjoy the service so much they come back and they get a commission for it. Just read how restaurants are doing exactly that to keep the cost down and customers lowering their tipping because of it. "Our friends at Upserve reached out to restaurant workers and gathered some important insights around restaurant wage changes. For example, tipped workers said they wouldn’t accept a substantial increase in hourly pay if it meant eliminating tips. If patrons who refuse to accept menu price hikes choose to withhold tips, this can negatively impact workers’ livelihoods by garnishing take-home pay." https://upserve.com/restaurant-insider/impact-minimum-wage-increase/

Customers? You were talking taxpayers as through the government tax system and then welfare system.
Probably because the national minimum wage hasn't changed since when 2007? ( I dont even feel like bothering to look it up)
This is interesting, if you make $70,000 grand a year in Washington State you could still be eligible for food stamps (snap) under certain requirements. https://www.benefits.gov/benefit/1364
Why us more people collecting food stamps a good thing? Obama used to brag about that were times better then?
If your searching for people on food stamps you need to look at the deep red states. You know, the ones with low minimum wages.
I don't need to do anything and your statement is a red herring anyway but how about responding to what I said . Why us more people collecting food stamps a good thing? Obama used to brag about that were times better then?
This has to be one of the dumbest posts ever. Or maybe I've just stumbled upon one of them thar right wing propaganda pieces. Washington and Oregon have long had minimum wages that were significantly higher than the rest of the country. Studies from Washington to California have shown than low wage workers do better with each rise in the minimum wage. Have you ever been to Seattle? It is not like they are starving for want of a restaurant. But the bigger picture is why so many Republican voters are so opposed to people being paid an adequate wage. I just don't see how one thinks it is okay to profit off of the labor of others, who aren't paid enough to have adequate housing and nutrition. But then this is central to the Confederate mindset, isn't it? One group becomes fabulously wealthy off of the labor of those who are forced to toil in dirt poverty.
I know you may find it entertaining to argue with the liberals about the restaurant and minimum wage policies but at the very least base on their result, they have done fairly well with respect to number of restaurants, household wages and unemployment rates. Just looking at the big picture without going into any details: 1. Restaurants. Seattle ranks #5 nation wide with 25 restaurants per 10,000 households. 2. Wage. In 2017 the median household income in Seattle was $87,000. Nation wide it was $61,000. 3. Unemployment. In 2019 the unemployment rate in Seattle was 3.5%. Nationally it is 3.7%. Best thing to do it compare Seattle's results to those of your city and see how it stacks up.
And now the new law is going into place and reading more and more restaraunts, some of the biggest and most popular in the city closing because of the wage increase, workers complaining they don't want to work for $15.00/hr that they prefer making more money making tips from customers they will no longer have.
This post sounds racist to me, for example Mississippi and South Carolina has each about 30% African Americans
With people making $100,000 a year living in there cars, in the employees parking lot? Or living in a cardboard box in a appartment, paying $508 a month???. https://www.google.com/amp/s/fortune.com/2016/03/28/man-lives-in-box-san-francisco/amp/ This Man Pays $508 Per Month to Live in a—Literal—Box in San Francisco Valentina Zarya March 28, 2016
Perhaps, but so far it has been working for them and they have had very high minimum wages and progressive policies so lets just wait and see. If it fails do you really care? Maybe their high household incomes will make it easier for people to pay higher restaurant prices. I don't really know what will happen and generally choose not to speculate especially if it does not concern me. How many places on the most restaurants per capita in the US do they have to drop before it is a problem? Let say they drop 10-20 spots. Maybe energies should go into those cities that are already in that position currently rather than the possibility that Seattle will drop to it.
Why does that matter? All I pointed out was they are in the top 5 for number of restaurants per capita. All I am saying is even if a whole bunch closed they are doing better than 90% of the cities in the country but no one is talking about the other cities. If any more restaurants opened they would move into the top 4. It just seems to me when you are bickering about policy of cities already in the top 1% to 2% you are wasting your energy. The energy would be better directed at the cities in the lower 1/2 and asking why more restaurants don't open there and perhaps try to duplicate some of the things that made the top cities so successful. That applies to median wage and unemployment too.
I posted the growth in restaurant employees earlier. About the same. Maybe a little better since they started moving the minimum wage up.
